What area are you in?

Most popular bait in the Clear Lake Derby was prepared maize (feed corn that has been soaked and boiled) and wheat tortilla doughballs.

The closest we get to the Sac area is Ellis Lake in Marysville but the last one we had there, no one showed up except the club co founder from Rocklin and my wife and I. ??? I publicized it on here and several people indicated an interest but no one showed up. >:(

I would jump at the chance for you to have a carp derby at Mather Lake on Mather air force base. I've seen a few 15lbers lurking in some of the coves. Hopin' to get out this weekend. Plus, many people fish there on the weekends, so you could get a decent turnout. Small lake though, probably less than an hour to walk around it.

Ok fishrman4life,

I'll get my friend that lives in Rocklin to check out Mather. Not much info about it on the internet, just this one page: http://areas.wildernet.com/pages/area.cfm?areaID=CASAMF&CU_ID=157

the carp came in from the creek that runs into the lake as fry im guessing, those probably came from the canal that runs parallel to the lake lengthwise. they grow REALLY fast

Ok fishrman4life, my friend is going to check it out again. He said that he tried it a few times but didn't see or hear of any carp but I believe it was last year. Here's a link to his post on the Norcal carp forum: http://norcalcarpclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=186.msg770#msg770

PS: thanks for joining the catfished.com forum, I assume you're the same fishrman4life?

no problem, and yes that is the same me...saves memory in the old ticker ;D ;D

and i know it was a carp i saw in there, no bass would grow that big and have diamond scales

I've also heard from a lot of kids that fish there....they use a prepped carp bait all the time and say it works to get fish out of Mather. I can only attest to what I've seen and heard....I'll check it out this weekend. Report to follow.

Ok thanks,

I'll be looking forward to your report. Steve's going to try it again when he gets a chance as well.
