I was thinking of heading out this weekend to the Hood Franklin area and trying to catch some sturgeon. I was wondering if anyone has heard or seen any fish being caught. I was thinking of taking the boat out and spending the night out on the water. Have there been many boats out there? Well that is pretty much it. Good luck to everyone who will be fishing this weekend and I look forward to seeing you guys landing big fish. Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for your feed back.

Thanks Westside. Last year I got a 58 inch and 65 inch sturgeon in that spot. I just wasn't sure if the bite was on. If you are out there this weekend stop by. I will most likely be out on the boat. Good luck if you are going out and if I do good I will post the pictures. Have a good week.

The river is flowing at over 30,000 CPS (Freeport data)! Dont know how you guys are holding bottom...Or keeping debris off your line long enough to catch anything... :-/

its no good when the water is high.. I got so sick of all the debri in the water and the constant drifting.

How much weight are you guys using when fishing from a boat?

i've fished from the bank around clarkesburgh and lemme tell you, i'll never do that again...you need atleast 12 oz just to hold somewhat on the bottom...as opposed to being in a boat like we were yesterday in the same general area, we only needed 8oz to catch a hawg!! not to mention from the bank i got snagged like 5 times and lost alot of gear....by boat is the way to go!!

when the water is normal.. all you need is a 6 oz weight for it to stay out enough.. When i fished the other day.. a 12 oz weight didnt even keep me out.. and it was rediculous getting tangled in 15 lb logs and debri. Ill never go out there in that condition again.

Heres a link to a USGS survey site that monitors the river flow. I use it faithfully and wont head up to Hood unless the flow (CFS)is down around the low 20's. If its into the 30's?? Forget about it, go somewhere else.

Yea, like deltadog said.. keep close attention to the river flow. I was out there with my buddy last night at clarksburg area.. couldn't keep 12 and custom 14oz claw sinkers down. The 14 would stay for about 5 minutes until debri collected on the main line.. then it just bounced off the bottom until it was 20 foot from the bank.

Hood is a no go..... Way to much debris floating down river. 14 oz. to hold it down on the boat. No action... Water is muddy and fast.

On friday, some old man at merrits landed an 84 incher in the early afternoon. He's the guy who fishes with 2 accurate reels. Glad to say he released it.

and glad to know there still here and biting during the day.

How ya doing Freeport Baiter? I was fishing scribners yesterday and seen around a 50-55" landed on the bank in the middle of the day. We missed of couple of bites, maybe stripers :-/. I had something on for about 2 seconds then it came undone. Seen multiple jumpers.
