View Full Version : Chain Island 2/27

Launched at Brannon this morning and fished with Gary Byrd, Bill Byrd and Mike Myers. We headed down to Chain and set up about 200 yds below buoy 1 in 37 ft of water at high tide. The first three hours of the out-going was pretty good but the bite died off after that. Bill broke the ice with a 48Ē just after the swing that we kept for the grill. About an hour later I hooked into one that took off like a raped Ape. I thought at first was a real monster. I managed to stop the fish fairly quickly but after 25 minutes of not being able to turn the fish at all or gain an inch I concluded it must be a smaller tail hooked fish. Caught up to the fish pretty fast after throwing the anchor and sure enough it turned out to be a 61Ē Dino hooked in the tail which we released to fight another day.
Next it was the other Garyís turn when he hooked into a good-sized fish that came unbuttoned after hanging on the bottom for about 5 minutes.
Besides the Sturgeon we ended up with 5 cats and 1 Flounder, no stripers today. All sturgeon hook-ups were on Ghost/Grass combos.
Perfect day on the water, no wind, sunny with a slight overcast and fish.
Iíll post pics tomorrow when Iím not so punchy.

We were set up pretty close to where we fished a couple years ago at the fest that day in the storm. I think the out-go runs until about 5:30 or 6:00 PM tomorrow so weíll most likely be there all day. Stop By if you go down there.

I think all the fish came on the Ghost Grass combo. Also used roe and Eel but no takers.
