Hey guys- I'm new to the forum and Sturgeon fishing. I have been reading all of the opinions on gear and have decided to buy a Tiger, but my question is which one. :-/ This will be my primary sturgeon rod, and I'm putting a Penn 320gti on it. Fisherman's warehouse is having a "no sales tax" sale on Friday and Sat, so I plan on picking it up then. thanks for your help!

I attended the Sturgeon seminar a couple of weeks ago at FW presented by Capt Stan. *He had a demo Tiger rod that was about 8' long with a light tip but a heavy backbone. *I didn't get the model number, sorry.
However, IMO, an 8' long rod for my boat is really too long. *I like to stay in the 6'6" no longer than 7' which the Tiger rod comes in. *
Good luck.

I have a half dozen of em and the one I like the best is 7 feet with a line rating of 12 to 30 I believe. They will all work but this one is "ideal". ZACK!

I just called FW Manteca and spoke to Steve who said that the 2200, medium action if used with a balancer is great but if you hold your rod, then the light tip of 2201 is the one. *Both the same price and as mentions, no sales tax on Fri and Sat. *Decision, decision... :o

i use a 7'9 MH ugly stick tiger...sensitivity and power is something like nothing else....you can see the lightest bites on the tip, and setting the hook is a awesomely powerful....you can see it in action on my sac river green sturgeon post in the video i made...

That is my choice of pole too .. I'm looking to get another one.
They had a great deal at the ISO in Sac .. I just din't want to carry it around all day

I like the 2201 or the 2201-2 if you want a 2 piece. I would stick with the pole with the higher line rating. I have a BWS 2201-2 that I would like to trade for a BWC. The rod is practically new.

BWC 2201 with a 320GTI, yozuri 30lb hybrid and you definately mean business. Caught both 97 and 88 inch Sturgeon in my post on that setup. I have pulled so hard on that 30lb and could not break it. Finally had to cut the line. I am going to try to get to the FW tomorrow afternoon to pick up another 320 GTI.

7'9" Tiger and a 320GTI with 25lb Maxima ("orange'ish" color) brought in a 82" 100+lb dino for my buddy and the same set up nailed me a really FAT 61" no sweat. For the price and performance you can't beat it. IMO 2 piece poles and Sturgeon don't mix too well. I have seen some break. Once again IMO. ;)

Tiger Lite! Get the one rated 20-40lb test and 4-6oz lure. Unparalleled sensitivity and great power. Caught an 84 inch fish on mine and it didnt break a sweat.

I brought in a 80-100 pound ray this last year on an Ugly Lite 17# test. What a thrill!!
