What is the regulation for releasing oversize sturgeon? Are you allowed to bring it in the boat to remove the hook or you must release it in the water? Are you allowed to use a snare?

I landed a 70" dino a few weeks back. Had to bring it in the boat to measure it. Theres no laws that say you cant bring an oversize aboard. You should just get a quick measurement and realese it asap.

The Sniffer On Line is adamantly opposed to bringing an oversize fish on board due to the damage it could cause to the fish. Fish can be measured easily in the water by noting where the head and the tail are in reference to the boat and measuring the boat or taping the fish while in the water. The law is a gray area that F&G biologists are working to change. The law says you can't possess a sturgeon that isn't tagged. Some wardens may see a fish in your boat as possession.
