View Full Version : Whats your favorite shotgun upland and waterfowl?

Just curious what people are using. I've been hunting a long time and have aquirred numerous shotguns. I find an excuse to buy a new one about every other year. For upland pheasants, quail and dove my favorite is my Browning Citori o/u with 26" barrels. It just feels good. Fast, accurate and well balanced.

For waterfowl in salt water like in the bay I like my old (25 years old) cheap mossberg 500 pump. That gun has been dropped in the bay, fallen in the mud, banged into all kinds of objects but just keeps on working. Its light weight and indestructable.
If I am hunting flooded rice or dry fields I like my new Beretta Xtrema 2. Ive only used it once but it is a real nice shotgun.

Benelli Super Black Eagle.* I have many nice shotguns, including two Browning O/Us, Remingtons, etc. but the Benelli is simply the toughest, best handling and best shooting shotgun I have found.

I shoot a Browning Gold. The new Maxus is awesome but I don't have one yet.

I shoot a Browning gold as well.* My back up is the good old stand by remington 870.* Those never die.*

I've been shooting the Beretta Extrema2 for about 4 years now and have yet to have a problem with it. The fact that the action takes out ALL of the recoil makes it pretty nice for waterfowling

For Pheasants/dove/squirrels etc. I love my old 1964 Belgium made vintage Browning Auto 5 Magnum Twenty (28 in barrell full choke).....It killed many ducks before steel was mandatory. This gun looks as good as the day it was made!!!!!!!

It's not a high dollar over-under, but I sure do love my American Arms 12ga. I can go from quail to geese with the same gun. I also sometimes, depending on the terrain and rocks, stick a hotter copper plated round in the second barrel for those chukar trying to make their getaways :)

For years I hunted with an old school Remington 870 made before they started making them with a vent rib...The slide on it broke in the middle of hunting season and the guy at the gun shop told me it would take at least a month to get parts and fix it.....He had a used 3 inch mag 12 gauge Remington 870 Express with a 26 inch barrel that someone had bought for home defense...It had only been fired a couple times...he wanted $200 for it...That was 12 years ago....

I've shot everything with it from deer to doves....A few years ago I wanted a fancy turkey gun, but I couldn't justify the price....So I bought a screw in Remington extra full turkey choke...painted the gun with flat olive green and black spray paint and added a set of True Glow rifle type adjustable sights....It's deadly medicine on gobblers and it will keep rifled slugs in a 6 inch group at 50 yards...It ain't pretty, but it's never let me down!!!

Benelli Super Black Eagle II. I pretty much use it for everything. Every once in a while, I will break out my grandfather's ol' humpback A5 for a pheasant hunt.

Sears and Roebuck and Co Ted Williams
model 300 12 ga auto. Alot of the time for both......
Are you guys done laughing???? I think Water Dog said it well..... It just feels good.
For me it is funny, you graduate to "better" guns then you end up shootin what you know? I carried it for so long. I guess you just get used to stuff.... Kinda like fishing, I have a few old rods and reels that refuse to stay home 8-) Steve.

Geese Remington 870 Supermag express 28" Barrel

Ducks and Geese will only brefly see a Win.1400.* That like Cal, I've camo'd out with some spraycans.*

Unland doves/phes/chuks,
Depending on how I feel will be getting a Stevens 311 sxs in either 12 0r 20 ga. (I have one of each) pointed at them.
When I get rich and famous I want to ad the 410 model to the collection.

I love my Rem 11-87's. I cut the barrel down on the waterfoul special to 21 in. and had it threaded and shoot hasting chokes, my other 11-87 is wood/blue and in nice shape, both are 12. I have a redlabel o/u in 12 and 20 that I shoot for upland and ducks in the blind. Had a benelli but had extractor problems on light loads and traded it. Looking at the new winchesters now.....

I also have a sears 12 auto but its stamped winchester on the inside. Its about 30+years old.
