Many people use the ShuttleHawks for quick and easy stacking. These allow you to change out the release to any style you want. They run about $15.00 and worth every cent IMO.

You have to use a regular static release for you bottom line. You then set the stop (comes with the S.H.) on the cable the distance above your bottom line that you want you second line. Essentially, you use the S.H. in-place of a stacker release that you would attach to the cable.

usually 0-20ft max and about 80 to 120ft behind depending on traffic with other boats....

I have found "stacking" works best when going deeper than 40 feet.
Otherwise a 2oz weight is less work. (depending on trolling speed etc. Also with weights your rods should be "faned out" for a larger area, not just in two areas c/o the downriggers.)
If you are going for Kok's Stacking works.....
