View Full Version : Pacifica sighting of salmon?

05-30-2005, 08:40 PM
Saw a report in the San Jose Mercury news two weeks ago that a salmon was caught off the Pacifica pier. Does anyone know if any others have been caught lately? Can't wait to catch some salmon without having to go on a charter boat!

Havent heard any reports about Pacifica Pier with Salmon. Its too early for them at the Pier right now. Its pretty wierd to hear that someone has got a Salmon off there at this time.

I went by there yesterday and there were a few guys actually fishing for salmon. I didn't see any but a few of the guys said a few have already been caught. Not many, maybe a handful but it's really early.

Excellent. I am going on an alaskan cruise for two weeks and then I will hit Pacifica and let you know how things go!

By the way, what were the guys using? Herring or Anchovies I assume with flashers?

06-12-2005, 06:48 PM
Anchovies on a trolley rig.

Back from Alaska and seems that the fish are moving closer to shore according to the Queen of Hearts website out of Half Moon Bay! Fishing limits just out of Pescadero. Caught a 15lber in Alaska on a half day trip. Was hoping for a whopper but the other guys on the boat kept on tangling the lines and decrease our chances of catching fish. One guy was so excited that he hit th release on the reel with a fish on and created a birds nest and tangled up with another guy who also had a fish on. He lost his fish and the other guy luckily had played out his fish because with about twenty feet of line still out we had to put the fish in by hand because of the massive tangle!

I saw a whole school of Salmon this weekend in Pacifica, and I will spot name the exact spot....The Safeway store on Palmento ave....sorry JK.

When they show up on the Pier, I'll be there, in between Striper runs. ;)

What do you use of the pacifica pier if i may ask? I have always wanted to try for salmon there. If anyone can give a pacifica pier newbie a heads up it will be much appreciated. The only salmon i've caught have been on charter boats out of the bay area and guides on the rogue river but never from a pier. What test line etc etc etc. Thanks in advance and May The Fishing Be With You!!!

Double_D said it...Trolley Rig.

Scroll halfway down the page and it explains the Trolley Rig.

I'm headed to Pacifica tomorrow morning(July 5th) Will let you all know how the fishing is!

07-04-2005, 09:16 PM
try not to trip over the trash left behind from the night before. ;D ;D

Spent the morning fishing with no luck for anyone there. Regulars say that last week the fish were in but have disappeared for now. Some stripers were being caught closer to shore. You can see bait fish in the water and people catching those on sabikis and lots of birds but no salmon. Try again this Friday maybe!

Sounds like the big school of salmon that attacked Monterey Bay then north to Santa Cruz and up Pescadero has made it past Pacifica too. I wonder if they went up towards Bodega Bay or some into the SF Bay and up the Sacramento River. Only the salmon knows, heheheeee!

Anyone been out to Pacifica lately? May try this weekend.

I was at pacifica pier about two weeks ago. It was the same week that dungy season had closed. There were about fifteen guys with trolley rigs including a buddy and I. Alot of poles at the far left end and at the end of the L. One guy caught a pig of striper. I'd say 35incher easily. Other than that no salmon that morining. Guys where also catching stiper in the surf part of the pier too. Left at around 230pm. Its bound to get better.

Gonna try my luck on Sunday and will let you know how the fishing goes.

I was at the pier this morn, wasn't much going on. When I got ready to leave I stop at the restroom, :o OMG I almost puked. I've have never seen anything like it in my life. :-X

Was out there this am and same report of nothing going on. Just a bunch of little shiner perch being caught. Thank Heavens I didn't need to use the can!
When are the salmon coming in! In the meanwhile will head up to the Carson River and do a little trout fishing and salmon fishing at the Nimbus on the way back next weekend.

Possibly heading out again this Tuesday to check out the action. Any new news out of Pacifica is appreciated. Checked out the Nimbus and Freeport areas with no luck.

I went out to Pacifica pier yesterday 07/27/2005 around 12:00pm until 6:00pm without any luck, and also did not see even on action on the pier at all. It was very very slow.

08-01-2005, 07:36 PM
Double D your mess in the bathrooms was so potent it scared the fish away! Don't deny it, we found the business card and it smelled of Mexican food! Come clean it up and lure the fish back to Pacifica!

Any new news on the Pier?

Yup..they cleand the bathroom. ;D

08-11-2005, 03:15 PM
Mercury News says that salmon were probably caught off the pier. Anybody confirm that?

08-16-2005, 10:38 AM
No numbers of significance at the pier. The most I heard for one day was 12 salmon. Lately there are 0-3 fish. Plus there are not many people fishing the pier lately.

08-16-2005, 08:31 PM
I went to pacifica pier on Sunday 08/14 around 5:00pm, and spent about 2 hours. I saw 3 stripers being clean up by couple of guys, and right before I left, I saw one more landed around 7:00pm. Did not see any salmon at all.

08-20-2005, 06:00 PM
i am acutully wondering my self... anyone seen those schools of salmons yet??

08-22-2005, 08:15 PM
I was out at Pacifica today which is 8/22/2005 from 1500-1700. no salmons, no stripers..... instead, caught a ****load of kingfish >:(

08-31-2005, 08:31 PM
What happened to the salmon this year? Is there still no big numbers at the pier?

09-01-2005, 09:16 AM
There are very few Salmon in the river systems. I wonder if that hurrican had anything to do with it?

09-01-2005, 10:13 AM
Methinks the fish just haven't made it in shallow yet.
Everything is later this year!

09-01-2005, 11:07 AM
I just hope that those million+ salmon do decide to come into the rivers. I guess it's better if they got here late anyhow cause there wouldn't be to many jet skiers on the water when the fishing turns hot.

09-02-2005, 08:22 AM
Yup..they cleand the bathroom. ;D

Funny that you say that because I think I need to go again, to the bathroom that is!

09-02-2005, 08:23 AM
Just as long as they come in sometime, I'll be happy but the sooner the better.

09-03-2005, 08:55 PM
Salmon fishing is long gone on the pier. Most of the pier fisherman got their waders and joined the rest of the striper anglers on the surf. They had one big day this year on the pier when the bait came close. The sad part this year is there wasn't enough bait to bring the fish in close. Just like what every one is hoping that the fish is just late this year. Let's not hold our breath and just keep on fishing.

09-05-2005, 01:06 PM
I'll hold me breath and hope they are late. Went up to the American River at the Nimbus Dam and looks like Pacifica pier fishing! Side to side fisherman going at it.
