We are going to Moss Landing Thurs. & Fri. Mickey, Hammer & myself are taking down our boats. Anyone else going?
We usually run on channel 11, so give us a call.
We will be looking for Salmon and Rockies. We both have GPS units and radios. Does anyone have any latest numbers for both?

Thanks & Good luck...

Not that this means anything but friend caught 25lb salmon screwing around trying to catch cod by hopkins (bell buoy monterey) on a 2oz mega spoon (barbless of course or they would have let it go)
Then came home.

OK you guys, thanks for the late post on Wed. night while I was getting my gear ready! I was out of moss (solo) and didn't hear any chatter on the radio. I talked with one boat (4 pack of people) after seeing them land a second fish. I was 2.5 miles straight out of Moss with everyone else and wasn't having any luck so I ventrued slightly south away from everyone. Except the Star of Monterey (charter) which I'll be posting a negative post about.
Anyways it was a late bite as it has been the last three trips out for me. Nothing till 10:00 then Pull-Down, FISH ON. It wasn't anything of size, but it was a legal fish at 22", so in the box it went. Shortly after that another one the same size that I shook the hook out, cause I wanted a larger fish for my Go-Home Fish. This kept up until 11:30 when I decided to keep the last one and go home.

Bottom line and final score for me on Thursday was I hooked into 5 fish, and kept two. All five were the same size 22" - 24". Caught 2 on anchovies and 3 went for the purple apex.

Well we had a great time, the Salmon fishing was slow for Me, Hammer, and Doc. So we went Rock Fishing ;) We limited out on rocks in a couple of hours and even caught a Ling. Doc did catch one Salmon. Ron and his Daughter Sara and his son Nick came out with their boat too. This was Sara's maiden Salmon trip and she did great, they managed 6 Salmon in 2 days (much better than us) and Sara caught the 2 biggest ones ;D Fun time out there on a perfect day, now if Bodeda ever stops blowing we'll be going back there next. Time to clean the boat ;D

Thanks Mickey,
The weather was great for you guys, it don't get much flatter than that huh? Next time maybe I'll find out you guys are heading down a little sooner, than later, lol.

We had another awesome 2 days of fishing in Monterey Bay. This was my Daughters first trip to the big blue and she had a blast. We arrived on Thursday afternoon around 4 PM. Went straight out and met up with Mickey and Hammer out in around 220 foot mark. We caught our first Salmon in less than 5 minutes. We hooked up with 6 fish on Thurs. and land 3. The biggest was around 12 lbs and Sarah landed it.

Here is a photo of her, Cute... ;D ;D

Got on the water around 6:30 on Friday and hooked up with our first Salmon in the first hour and Sarah landed this big hog pushing 25 Lbs. Great 2 days for a rookie....Sarah has fished with me since she was very little and I always enjoy spending time on the water with her. But this was the first time I took out in the ocean.

On Friday after we finished up catching our limit of Salmon, Mickey called out on the radio and said lets go and catch some rock cod. Not knowing where to go we started out in about 100 feet of water just north on Moss and caught a bunch of sand dabs and sharks. This was Nick's favorite part of the trip. He loved catching the Sharks. Thats all he wanted to do.
So after catching about a Dozen of sharks and 25 sand dabs, I called out on the radio and asked if anyone knew where a good place to take the kids to catch some rock fish. Well one great fisherman gave me some numbers of a spot about 6-8 miles south of moss around a flew pipe. Well I met the fisherman their and he put us on a boat load of blues and blacks. Mickey caught a small 20" ling cod. We all caught a limit of Rock Cod

Here is Nick with his shark he has so much fun catching.

Here is a photo of Sarah and Nick with a little rock cod. It was a great day watching my two kids have so much fun together... ;D ;D

Here is Mickey and Hammer catching some Rock fish...Laughing and having a great time. even Doc showed up for some fun with us...He was driving the boat...

We caught all of our Salmon fishing down around 65 - 100 feet deep in 220 foot of water, with the exception of 1 24"er letting out lines. We were using 11" green hot shot flashers with a 24" leader to a green/white and blue/white 3" hoochie over an anchovy. This has been the set up that we have had great success this year so far.

Mickey, Hammer and Doc...I had a great time fishing and hanging out with you guys. Can't wait until the next trip... ;D ;D

Here are some more photos.

Now that I see a picture of Mickey, I believe that was you that entered Moss right behind me in my 14' Klamath on Thursday, around 12:30? You hung a left into the launch and I went right into to harbor. I'm surprised you didn't see my stars on the motor and say something, but I had already turned off my hand held. You were fishing just north of the harbor it looked like around the yellow cans.

07-30-2005, 06:02 PM
way to go guys and some great pics too....
nice fish, you guy took home some meat.... :o
we got to hook-up and fish, even if its some

Sorry knof, it wasn't me ??? we didn't launch till 4:30 thurs. All of us good looking old guys look the same ;D ;D ;D Fun time Ron, Hammer, Doc, Sara, and Nick. I thing Ron had the better crew ;) ;D ;D

07-30-2005, 07:05 PM
See Hammer, I told you he was going to blame the crew. ;D

07-30-2005, 08:28 PM
The really funny thing is we let Doc drive the boat ;D ;D but only in small burst ;) It was just Ron the "King of Kings getting even with us for the last trip when he got shut out. 8) If you can always catch Salmon it wouldn't be fishing would it?

Hey blue crush

It was good to talk to you. Sorry we didn't hook up, but we will be back down that way soon. Hey, there is going to be a big gathering up at pyramid lake called pyramid fest the second week in October. You should try to make it up.

Take care and good luck....

08-01-2005, 09:41 AM
Ron, your ocean reports and pictures are always excellent. Sounds like everyone had a great time.

08-02-2005, 05:09 AM
Allfish, we do have a good time but all the pictures were mine 8) except the ones of me and hammer in my boat, Ron keeps losing his camera in the truck ;D ;D That was my first Rock Fishing that I'd done, it was kind of fun and they tasted great, even my wife ate a bunch 8)

08-02-2005, 05:26 AM
Sorry Mickey, what I meant to post was "Mickey are those are the best ocean pics I've seen in a long time" ;) :D

The rock fish are fun, the part I like is you never knowexactly what might be coming up on your hook :o ???. I know you are more of a troller guy and pretty soon we'll be out given the salmon a go.

We had rockfish and flounder tacos last night, they were really good :D. Holly is gettin some ready to take for her lunch , rock fish pita bread sandwich thingie right now.
