I was camping at Seacliff Friday and Saturday and gave the surf fishing a try with my 9 year old son, dad and buddy. My son who has never tried surf fishing caught the first three perch in about 20 min. He now has the bug. We continuned to catch perch or the next hour or so. A couple of them were 12 inches and better. We cuaght all of our fish on Berkley camo worms. There were a couple of guys down the beach from us using shrimp and they were doing pretty good.

Thanks for the report! That's a great way to get kids started and enjoy a life long pursuit!

What happened to all the Kingfish that we use to catch at the Cement Boat and all up/down the beaches?

We use to use a 10 lb. surf leader with a #6 snelled hook on each drop, 1-2 oz sinker and a medium size shrimp on each hook. Fishing was best on incoming tide till HI tide.

Why would you want to catch those? I hate those bait stealers!

I was just wondering what happened to them. That was all we use to catch so we stopped fishing there.

They're still there. It's hard not to catch a bunch of em fishing anywhere around Santa Cruz/Capitola. To avoid them use bigger baits. Whole squid, whole anchovies or better yet live bait.

Stripers love to eat kingfish. You should try them for bait there, as stripers occasionally roam the area.

Fishing from the PIEr

I hooked up with two SKATES and a 4ft Trasher. Tons of bait but no striipers or SEa bass.....

Only other fish caught yesterday evening was another Thrasher about the same size.

No Takers!!!!! But good action on light tackle. ;D ;D
