View Full Version : Camanche 1-31

We hit it at day light and started fishing right out side the ramp cove.* We headed for the narrows and just before we got past the bouys Froggie's orange grub at 6 feet goes off and we end up shaking off a 15" bow at the back of the boat.* We went all the way to the bridge and never had another bounce...but the lake and the weather were awesome!!!*
At like 9:30 we reel in and head to the Big Hat area.* Right off I boat and release a 14" bow on my Hot Steel at 15'* and before you know it Froggie has a jumping splashing yanking 15" bow to the boat...only to be shook off at boat side! That isn't what we were looking for.* *By now it is past noon and we are talking about heading in and Kokemachine says (on the radio) they are kinda hitting grubs at the ramps .* We decide (on the way in) lets drag a lure in the main lake.* I put in a Firetiger grub and decide to hook it to a rigger at like 4'.* Never got there.* My rod is leaning there in "free spool" with the clicker on (in free spool) while I put the line on the rigger release and I hear Wheeee!* I grab the rod and start cranking!!!* Right off I tell Froggie, "Get the net".* My new Vance's rod and Tica TK101 reel are just what I need!* Finally a reel fish!* It doesn't feel like a monster but it was the best one for me for quite a while!* I get it near the boat and Froggie is poised with the net and it heads straight for the kicker!!* *I can't get it back out from under the boat.* She says"I can see it between the main motor and the kiicker...I think I can net it".* *What the heck!* *She nets it but it won't come up into the boat, it is like it is tied to something it keeps pulling out of the net when she would try to boat it.....I actually hand her the rod and take the net and net the fish...the fish slides out every time I lift up....Finally we realize the line is around the transducer and the fish is trying to just hide under the* boat.* I once again hand the rod to Froggie and reach over the transom and unwrap the line from the transducer..."Whew"...and realize the fish is freaking out just the other side of the big motor.* Which ain't running since we are trolling!!!* I finally yank the fish to my side of the motor, reach for the gill and miss...and end up kinda wrestleing the fish over the transom and into the boat!!!!* This was really tuff to do with Froggie almost stretched out on the deck she was laughing so hard and me giggleing like a schoolgirl!!!* *I think Froggie actully has pics of me on the floor giggleing!* *Oh yeah it was 3#4ozs.* The fishing wasn't like awesome but the company and the entertainment value can't even be measured!!!* Froggie, you are the reason fishing has gone from activity to obsession....What a beautiful day on the water!!!* It turned into a great day!* *We caught 4 fish all together.* Two were caught on Rapalas, (hot steel f-9 and f-9 gfr)* Two were caught on grubs.* *(including the 3pounder)* Froggie has the pics.* We went from 1.7 to 2.1
See you out there,

Glad you were able to find some action out there.* We we out there until about 2:00 - here is my log:

1/31/2010 – Launched at the Lake Camanche north shore at 6:30 am with Eric.* We fished the narrows for 15 trout and one spotted bass.* Best lures were Arctic Fox and Sep’s orange/brown trolling flies with a small wiggle disc directly in front of them.* Flies were tipped with night crawlers.* Also caught some fish on 3” orange Sep’s grubs with Pro-Cure krill gel.* Top line rod was set out 150’ with a small split shot in front of the leader.* Downriggers were set at 2’ down.* Best speeds were 1.5 to 1.7 mph.* Off the water at 2:00 pm.

Here I am with a nice holdover rainbow in the morning

Eric with the big fish of a day – a spotted bass.* Once again, the BassJack.com North River comes through by attracting bass instead of the targeted species.

Eric with a holdover

Another nice holdover

Well, I don't feel so bad now that I know it wasn't just slow for us. We put in 4 hours and landed two nice holdovers. Lost a pig at the boat, and had a few short strikes. We threw a whole array of lures and grubs at them but the producers were silver J9 rapala, and firetiger jointed shad rap size 7. Actually, slow is just fine with me...the day was absolutely BEAUTIFUL and two fish makes a perfect dinner for us.

Nice Bows

Froggie&Tortuga,That was a really good report.Great pics.Wish we were close enough to see you two wrestle that fish.Good times!Im glad nobody went overboard, trying to Wrangle that beast.Classic moments!Like my boy dropping my favorite stringer into the abyss, with two fish hanging from it.How?We just finished boating a double.Jr. was attempting to tie them off, when his second rod got a huge take down.I said.Jr...JR...and over the side they went. Some peoples kids huh? ;D Ol well.Turned out to be a Awesome day.No rain, wind,or even fog.We ended up with 8 fish all between 14"and 18".shouldve been two limits.Oh yah.Did anybody catch a pig with a U.V. SlingBlade hanging from a Tru-Turn hook in its mouth? ;D ;D ;DGod bless. K.K.

KM...wasn't it a beautiful day on the water...that red-gold sky was awesome in the am. And the glowing moon as it sank to the west was quite spectacular too. The new flat rapalas didn't get me any fish on Sun., but i'll keep trying. See ya again on the water soon I'm sure.

HH, it was quite funny watching Tortuga literally wrestle that fish on his hands & knees to scoop it into the boat.
