Glad the board is back up....
heading up to Gold Lake next week and looking for general advice about hotspots, etc for that lake and any others in the immediate area. Are there any boat rentals available there?
Thanks,

Well I came home on sunday. The fishing was great, but all small, we trolled Raplals and it was non stop. I tryed to put on some big luers for macks and used the downrigger but no luck. This lake is hard to troll with the downrigger, due to the depth changes, it would be 70 feet than to 4 feet. We also fished with the kids from shore. Started with powerbait and had no luck. Put on worms, bam fish all day long.

We camped at Lakes Basin Campground from Wed to Sat. Before it got dark on Wed we shore fished Gold Lake and got 5 in 30 minutes on rainbow powerbait. Thu we went to Sardine Lake and rented a boat for the afternoon and the 3 of us each kept 5 brookies apice trolling flashers and worms. Real hard fighting fish for the size (to 14"). Fri we hiked to Long Lake and had no strikes. Didn't even see any fry swimming around. Drove around the rest of the day checking out the resorts, fire lookout, red fir nature trails, and other lakes. Ended up back at Gold at the same spot that worked for us on Wed but no luck.

Most campgrounds looked primative (dirt roads, no water, portapotty) except for Lakes Basin (gravel/paved road, water, vault toilet). I would have like to check out the 4x4 campground on Gold but ran out of time. Sardine is really the only lake that has boat rentals that I'd goto again. Too bad no one rents anything on Gold. A few of the resorts have boats on hike to lakes for their guests.

Overall it's a great area that if you haven't check out yet you should. I liken it to the Caples Lake area. Bunch of lakes and streams within short drives/hikes.

We went to Salmon on Friday hoping to rent a boat, but it was a zoo, and you had to catch the ferry to the lodge across the lake in order to rent a boat, so we went elsewhere. Pretty lake though.

Stopped by Packer too, but they only have row boats, and I like to troll. Very small lake also, which explains why they don't have powerboats.

even though packer is small, we trolled the lake. i killed them with flashers/????? combo. it doesnt take much to troll it, just get your pole in the water! i slow trolled, and could not believe how well it worked! all i can say is to use flashers. pm if you want more info!
