Sunday's colors are Red and Blue.

0500 breakfast special at Sharkey's in Gardnerville. 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, hash browns, toast and coffee. $3.00. No tax. Arrive at Red lake at 0555. The wind was calm and the sky clear with a touch of frost and a light mist on the lake. Shortly after arrival Fat Fish and Cgagex3 showed up. The fishing was slow we managed to land only 2 Brookies with few other strikes. They went for plastic jigs and gold Kastmasters. Just after 0700 the crowds started to arrive. Cory and I decided to go up and give Blue Lakes that opened up just this Friday a try. *Jeff decided to hang around Red longer then go to Caples in the Woods Creek area. Let us know how you do Jeff. Arrived on the NE shore of Upper Blue Lake around 0745. Blue Lake hasn't been fish in over 6 months and remains on the DFG no stock list. So what's the chance for some hold over bows? Very good. The weather was partly cloudy with little wind. The surface of the lake was dimpled with rising fish. Using gold Kastmasters Cgagex3 and I caught between 25 and 30 hard fighting bows. We lost many more. There were a few bait guys there using Power Bait but they didn't last long usually catching their limits in 5 casts. Next a try at Lower Blue. This is somewhat a sore spot with me having never caught a trout out of this lake. Cory and I fished the dam with Kastmasters and needless to say my streak remains un broken. :-[ Back down Blue Lakes Road. Cory turns west for Red Lake, Caples and home and I turn east for Minden, lunch and my usual Sunday afternoon power nap. Nice fishing again with you Jeff and Cory. It was a wonderful day in a colorful part of the world.

Judging by your third picture, I think we may have been fishing in the same area, or at least taking pictures (mine was taken 6/13).

Well Jeff & Richard nice seeing both of you.
Loved seeing Upper Blue in such good shape. Unfortunately with her on the no stock an open to fishing by poachers, I am afraid it won't last long.

There was a father son combo fishing a ways down from us and on our way back towards the vehicles we came thru their fishing area right after they left. The kid was cleaning the 5 he had down there and threw the guts in the lake before they went to the car. As we came upon the spot I saw there were 10 sets where the kid was and 12 more where dad was fishing next to him. The kid was probably in the under 20 range. Just hate seeing a kid learn such bad habits when it comes to fishing. But as they were gone it was a little late to do anything about it, didn't catch the car type or plates. >:( >:(

After leaving CC I stopped by and hiked Red Creek, looks they are almost cleaned out to downstream. Just like last week with Hunkfisher I only pulled in 1 brookie, got two other tugs on my jig while there.

Next was a drive down to Woods Lake, just recon no fishing.

Still one of the prettiest sites to visit. Only a new development, now she is a pay to play lake. They have installed a $5 day use fee system at Woods now. Still worth the price if you ask me.

Then off to hike down to Woods Creek / Caples inlet. Only fished for about 1/2 hour, was starting to get nasty looking weather wise so time to head down the hill.

Until next time guys. Already looking forward to it.

We were at Red yesterday as well. Wow, what a great morning. Saw Fatfish there as well. We were killing them on the dam with gold castmasters. Caught at least 20+ each. Kept 5 for dinner..mmmm they were good. Stopped by Caples at the creek on the way down the hill. Pretty crowded at 10:30AM. Saw a few fish but nothing like Red.

The campgrounds were about 1/3 full on Sunday. One of the CGs at Upper Blue was still closed. There remain some big Cutts at Red but they are fussy.

Hey CC. I've been to Red Lake many times. I think pictures 2 & 3 are the best I've seen. Got to be one of the most picturesque lakes around.

The light is very good in the morning at Red. The sun will catch all of Red Lake Mountain befoire it hits most of the water creating a soft redish glow. Amazing.
