View Full Version : Red and The Carson 5/17

Headed up the hill to fish Red for the first time on Sunday. Left early enough to see the sun come up.
Here's Caples as I went by, still kinda slushy.
Got to Red about 6:30 fished for a half hour or so, not much was going on with the bank fishers. I start throwin a small spoon and a few casts later I look down and a
brookie is following my spoon about 5ft from shore! So I let it drop and he nails it!
Caught one more shortly after that, same thing, both fish were hooked less than 5 ft
from shore. Pretty exciting though! ;D
Here's the better of the two.
Pretty nice, haven't caught a Brookie over 8" in awhile, so I was stoked! After that, not much else was happening and it started to really heat up, so I decided to head up to the Carson where at least I could get my feet in the water and cool off. Got up there about 11:00. It's still running pretty good a lot of water moving through.
Hiked a bit to find some pockets to drop nymphs. Found a nice little hole and hooked a few of these tiny guys.
Also hooked a nice bow just long enough for him to jump and let me see em then
he came off. :'( Overall, perfect day had a lot of fun and it won't be my last visit to Red! All fish were released. Sorry for the late post, but had finals yesterday. I'm all done now though, so you know what that means... more fishin! :D

Welcome to our little gem. Now you have kicked up the anticipation for our Stockerfest '09 trip tomorrow a little bit more.
I have seen Red & Caples twice in the last month and both times they were still frozen over. Looks like tomorrow will be everything we have been waiting for since last Nov / Dec.
Next time you are up that way keep an eye out. You may spot me on my bright yellow toon or on the shore with Capt. C and 3 or 4 others on any given day.

I am like those little kids that can't go to sleep the night before a trip to Disney right about now.

Yeah I couldn't sleep saturday night before going up there, that's how I ended up heading out by 5. Funny how I can get up that early only when fishing is involved. I was halfways expecting to see a sniffer or two up there that day. I'm sorry to say I won't be up there tomorrow, already committed to helping my folks. Might hit up Taboo after though... ;) Where is SF anyway? Caples, Sliver?
