On the Water at Topaz with Jetspray and his jet boat at 7:45. Temperature low 20s with winds lite and variable. Fished until a little after 2:00. Five fish in the boat to 14 inches. The fish were caught toplining with a 1/4 oz gold Kastmaster and Pearl Bikini Needle at 3 colors (18 feet) on leadcore. All fish were caught on the north end of the lake. There were at least twice as many LDRs, SDRs and missed opportunities. The water temps ranged from 39 at the dock in the morning to 44.5 degrees in the afternoon. The trout are schooling and you have to look hard to find them. Thanks once again Dave for the ride. A wonderful day.

Best part was watching CC chase the fish in the live well when we drained it. He did enjoy having a shot at dirving and is good at it too. Found out how it works in 2ft of water over sand as well.....Jetspray

You must have landed the boat in Nevada since keeping trout in a live well is illegal in California. ::)

I wondered about that. We launched at the County park on the Nevada side and never set foot in California. There was a Nevada Warden there when we left but he paid us no attention.

It is not illegal to keep game fish alive and in a live well,
net or on a stringer while at the body of water from which they
are caught. -- Nevada 2009 Fishing Regs.

Thanks for the reminder Doc, but I only use the Nevada launch because it only costs me $25 a year, being a Douglas County resident. We kept the fish alive only to keep them fresh as possible. CC only lives 10 minutes away from me. Otherwise it would be bonk and bleed, then dump in the live well full of water to keep them cool. I can also put a bag of ice in there to keep them on as I do at Eagle Lake. Thing is I don't like to tail a stringer over the side of the boat and the livewell is for that use. I also disinfect it according to the use. I keep a rule book on board as well.......Jetspray

Great looking hat....................

Glad to see that you two got into a few nice fish, it will get a lot better when the water gets in to the middle 50's, which should be around April 1st, maybe?

Always nice when you can fish lakes where a live well can be used......

The stringer in the water just keep them wet, while the ice is the best way to go , hopefully with the fish in a big plastic zip-lok bag.

Have a good season.

Nope Mr_Ed just a Costco 10 gallon kitchen bag for the flopping fishey's. Sides me going to Pyramid is kinda as close as you going to Topaz. We'll have to meet in the middle sometime and fish on each other's rig. PM me if you wanna try......Jetspray

Congrat's on your fish. I wish we had that luck this weekend, it was tough. When we got up Tue. A.M. I saw a boat out on the lake about 7, must have been you guy's. Sure looked a lot better than it did Monday.

Good job guys! Hopefully some of those nicer fish will start showing up before the lake lice do. Im reading this from an Internet cafe in Mazatlan. Ill be back in the frozen North tomorrow. Had a good time here catching Dorado and Red Snapper! 8-)

We mapped quite a few schools around the north end west side over rock structure as well as schooling from that area to the east end. We did some mapping of the center of the lake but few showed up. I'm sure they were there but we had the fish symbols on and that messes things up, kinda use to arches on the lookaround myself......Jetspray

Nice job Boys!! Looked like a great day to be on the water. There nothing like going on a balls out run across the lake in those conditions. Grease flat and the cold mountain air in your face at 35mph. Thats when you know your living!!!

Water temps still in the low 40s and morning temps in the low 20s the lake lice will have to be bold indeed.

Whack, Pack and Stack! Good job putting some in the cooler, I v'e heard the temps were low, but with your report the temps seem to be on the rise a little, few more degrees and they will be a bit more active and a it will be a bit less nippy a the ramp in the AM.

Good to see that there is still alright trout in Topaz. Have a buddy that caught a nice brown by the inlet of Topaz. Will try to post a pic later when I can get one off of him! ;)

I read the New 2009 Regulations on Transportation of game fish in Bold RED letters it says[ Anglers must kill fish to be transported away from the body of water.] Live well net or stringer at body of water is OK.

Correct for Nevada. In California you can't even have them in the live well unless they are dead.
