Okay,

I made a nice connection yesterday between posts on this site, and real-life action on the water. I was always to shy to ask what OTW meant. Listening to folks on the VHF, I finally made the connection.

There was additional chatter about what sounded like different levels of bites. Anyone care to share? Seemed like there was a soft bite, and a rip and run bite. That being said, the word "bite" was never used. My friend and I said, "I wonder why they don't say bite?"

Ah, the joys of being a green horn. Sponging all the time.

DG, OTW=on the wire.....using your downrigger
the soft bite is when the fish just kind of taps it , or your pole slowly goes down.
Short strike is when the pole goes down sharply, but no hookup
rip in run is when the fish grabs the bait and takes off like a bat out of hell
