So Pop the boy and I decided we'd sneak in a trip to Camanche before the weather hits. Pretty much figured we'd be in good company as I knew a bunch of sniffers would be there like Kokemachine, Stonesfan and others. I was looking for a little payback after getting goose-egged with Stoney last Sunday at Pardee.

The day didn't start off so well as BOTH of my drainplugs in the boat had disappeared. After a quick stop at the store we had two and we were on our way. First stop the Parkway Dam just north of Hat Island. Started off by ourselves for the first half hour with nothing then the fisrt take down came and just about yanked the rod right out of the holder. I grabbed it felt a good hard yank and line peeled. I handed it off to my son to fight while I brought up the other lines. He was having a tough time with it as it peeled line 4 times! As soon as I got look at it I new it was a hog. I figured easlily 6.5 or 7. Got in and and it was 7lbs 12ozs.

Heck of a good start if I do say so myself. After I announced it on the radio Robbie comes back and is more than a little upset. He had what was probably that elusive 10lber on and it got off and took his Rapala. Ouch! So Stoney hits me up and he's picked one up on the other side of Hat Island from me but he doesn't have a scale or a camera on board. So he came by and we weighed it and snapped a quick pick. A nice 6lb 2 ouncer!

So I'm feeling good about today already.... Then nothing for an hour. Then a double...3.5lbs and 4lbs 2ozs.

Total we had 13 fish to the boat not including a couple those pesky green trout that decided to hit while trolling. Both were 3.5-4lbs each

We kept the biggest 5 trout for one limit. Biggest was 7lbs 12ozs...smallest was 3lbs 9ozs. We released everything else. Ok now I really need to make me one of those really cool limit sticks like Robbie and Stoney have.....we had over 20lbs in this limit!

We picked up fish from the North Shore of the Main Dam *to Hat Island to the Parkway Dam. The hot lure of the day was Hot Steel Rapalas in F9 and F7. Black and Silver F9 Rapala and J9 Orange/Gold Rapala with a worm trailer. When I left *at noon I know Robbie, Fis-n-fool and Stonesfan and others were still hard at it and had just landed fish so look forward to more reports like this one to come. Now I can wipe the stench of that skunk off me aaaahhhhh!

Want to take the wife and kids midweek, I will bring the boat to Camanche. Never really trolling for trout.
Will top lining F9 work? How fast to troll? ect.
I do not have a down rigger, but I do have a trolling motor and GPS.
Thanks in advance.

This hog was not as nice as the two we pulled from Pardee opening weekend but it hit and fought a lot harder. Every thing we caught was top lining Just make sure you get a set back between 130-150ft sometimes more. Kinda like trolling for stripers. Vary your speed between 2.5 and 3.0mph. We stayed in 15-25ft of water near shore as much as possible since these fish are schooling around the lake near shore looking for a meal. Don't sit on one place too long move around and cover a lot of water.

We had a blast with all the sniffers on the water today. I got to reel in a couple but I played deck hand for the boy and Pop. My 85 year old dad has gotten to reel in several in the 4-5lb range this season so far and I know he still digs it even though he's not as stable anymore. I get my share of fish but I like getting him on some nice fish since he's an old fly guy. Can't wait till I get him to the Gorge this year.

Tortuga nice job on your first Camanche trout. I'm gonna head over to NM sometime looking for browns I'm sure I'll see ya again soon. *Fis-n-fool nice to see you guys as well other than Koke fishing at Pardee.

Stoney...way to sport that hat man!

Ya know it's funny...and I almost said it on the radio yesterday too...."Where the H-E-double hockey sticks is Jimmy?" You were about the only one missing...
