Trolled Folsom from 10:00 to 3:30 and only picked up one planter rainbow. *Beautiful day, no wind. *We toplined kastmasters and tried various depths up to 40 ft. with rapalas, white grubs, little cleos, and a couple other lures. *The only fish was caught at 20 ft with a F5 firetiger rapala - no scent. *I'm pretty sure it is a planter rainbow, but when I was cleaning it, I noticed the lower jaw was black. *I don't recall rainbows having this feature, is this common?

yep, dfg eagle lake trout. Probably a birth mark :)
Nice fish, could be a holdover the way the fins look. Good job catching a fish out there. Where about did you catch it? how big was it. Really healthy looking trout.

Folsom lake has Rainbows and King Salmon. With the black gum, It looks like It could be a cross between them both. I fish Folsom a lot and have caught one's like that myself. I know that you should get a lot of responses to your question and I could very well be wrong about It. To me it looks like a cross and if you look at some past post on Folsom you should find all your answers there. Glad you had a good time, have fun out there.

i agree w/ cal.

pulper, that is a nice fish, i'd be real happy w/ that cruising around from 10 to 3, but my bar is probably not as high as others around here.

I caught a similar fish a while back. That is a rainbow. Only the tip of the lower jaw is black. With kings the entire gumline will be black along the teeth. Nice catch.
