has anyone tried this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0ZXXKzbzZU
as opposed to boiling them alive? Which is better?

I never boil them whole. *I clean them before I cook them. *Why would you cook a fish without gutting it?

Here's another video of essentially the same technique. *Pretty fast shell removal. *THAT'S a new one on me. *I'll have to try that!

OK, just one more. *This has got to be the cleanest crab ever served...

it's definitely way better. everyone always told me to cook them alive and everyone i know does it. Oh, and the guy in the video tutorial wears gloves for a reason. ;D

What was up with the toothbrush deal??? ::)

I'm thinking a sharper cleaver and a little less massaging. 8-)

I also never cook my crab whole. But I've been turning them upside down spliting them in half with a cleaver then pulling off the shell and shaking out the guts. Thanks for the post, my process just got better. I pull my puts in the am so I'll get a chance to try out the new cleaning method. Thanks again for the info.

You guys ever tried pouring a few 7up's in the pot when you boil them? makes the meat overall sweeter.

I actually like the crab cooked live and whole. When we do, we put some smashed ginger to take some of the fishy smell and add a little better smell.

Hey, however YOU like it, that's how YOU should cook it!!! ;D
I could go for some crab right now...
