So this year i decided to try out ice fishing for the first time, and finally got out today to try it. I went with my cousin, who's gone once before, to my favorite lake, Boca in Truckee. We got there at 8 in the morning, which is a whole lot later than i wanted to get there. There were two guys fishing when we got there, and they already had 3 nice browns. The biggest was about 5 pounds with the smallest around 3. *They left around nine with 4 browns all together, and me and my cousin packed up at 10 because i know boca well enough to know not to waste my time after 10.

In the two hours, i had fish bite 5 times, and unbelievable i missed each hook set. Just wasn't my day i guess...first time i've been skunked at boca in a long, looooooooooooooong, time. My cousin had one bite, followed by a 5 min. fight and ended up pulling out a nice brown. I'd say 4-5 pounds probably. Maybe a bit more. The ice conditions are great. We had to dig through 10-12 inches of ice to get at the water. The thing is, as soon as we started the first whole the auger broke in half.....ya, i know right? So we ended up using my small hatchet to break the holes. Needless to say we were quite warm today *;) Fog stayed til about 9 and then the sun came out and it got really hot. We used a mix of shrimp, berkely power minnows, and panfish/trout worms found at wal-mart. I'm planning on coming back saturday so hopefully i'll have a better report then. Today was still worth the experience.

Nice pictures and story. Man that looks cold. [smiley=cold.gif] That is a very nice looking brown. With a tail like that the fight must have been massive. Thanks

great job! really nice looking brown. must have been a really good fight with that small rod.

Lol well it caused some trouble for sure. I was gonna pull it out for him with my snowboarding waterproof gloves on and all i did was make it worse to be completely honest....then he just reached in and got it by the gills and lifted it out....right before shooting a disgusted look my way hehe. Wasn't my day for sure. And the line ripped the second the fish was out of the water...just in time...

As I was looking at the pictures on the way down the post I was thinking hell no on that cold fishing.....then I got to the pic of the Brown and I changed my tune..

That is an impressive fish and much better than anything I've ever caught. I envy you guys. Way to pull it out. I hope you get a few more next time.

Nice fish! *hey i dont get your snaggers for life thing??? snaggging isnt funny

Lol it's not snaggers for life. It's snaggers are us and me, fisherforlife lol. The reason i made it is because i was out fishing with a friend about a month ago, and we had a bet on who'd get more legal fish. (we were bass fishing) So that day he accidently snagged 2 fish jigging in deep water, and at the end of the day ended up losing by 2 fish to me. So i told him, "if you write a book on snagging you can make more money than betting against me" i told him he could call it the idiot's guide to snagging lol. Then one day i was at the computer bored so i brought up Paint and did the little thing you're asking about. Snaggers-R-Us i put in because everyone snags a fish every once in a while lol. It's not cus i snag or try to snag, just somethin funny to look at *;)

Oh and i don't bring cameras...just my cell phone lol. A bad picture is better than no picture at all, but i have a pretty good nokia so the pictures are passable. As to the cold, i was in 4 sweaters and 2 jackets, and it was ok. The ice digging with the hatchet definitely helped. Just the price we pay ;)

Lol this fall i saw one there swimming along the shore and it was HUGE. I'd guess at least 20 pounds, and probably a lot more. We threw everything at it and it didn't even look our way. Just kept swimming like it knew all about wat was goin down. Someday he'll get what's comin to him :D
