Had the opportunity to spend some time at the Tahoe place over the long holiday weekend and the thought of weekend with no fishing just felt wrong so I brought the boat 8-)

There's no parking available for my boat on our property this time of year so I made arrangements to keep it in MJK's garage at his place in Tahoe Donner. We had plans to let the brain cells recover on New Years Day and fish Pyramid on Friday. A storm blew through Friday with high wind warnings for Tahoe and Pyramid so we decided to spend another day in front of the fire watching football and hit the lake Saturday.

Saturday morning was calm and cold and it seemed as everything was covered in ice. I thought I was going to have to chain up to get down the hill but MJK had a back way down to HWY 89 that was not as steep.

9 degrees at Tahoe Donner with everything covered in Ice

We got a late start and with the icy roads it was a slow ride to Pyramid. Finally got the boat launched at about 9AM
Got off to another slow start trolling when the motor didn't want to pee (Ice?) finally got it cleared and started trolling North up the West shore from Pelican. MJK and I are both Rookies at Pyramid having only been once before so we weren't expecting much.

MJK hooked up first and once again got into my wallet

We trolled all the way up to a concrete thing that looked like a mushroom picking up a fish here and there.

Big D on the board finally
Never did get any kind of pattern going and every fish was on a different lure. For awhile there it felt like Kokanee fishing with tackle all over the back of the boat

Another fish another lure

One of the two different Lyman's caught fish

MJK with another

We boated and released 6 fish, with the largest maybe 20" Did talk to one guy at the ramp that had boated a 10+lb fish. Didn't see many nets getting used and from the reports I've seen even the Pyramid regulars were having to work for fish. We put the boat on the trailer about 2:30 and headed back to Truckee. Had a good day on the water and learned a little more about Pyramid.

Nice job! Sounds like you guys were spankin' 'em while everyone else was gettin' spanked ;D Nothing like a nice fish on the line to help you forget about the cold for few minutes [smiley=cold.gif]

6 fish isn't too bad right now. There isn't much of a pattern right now. I've caught fish slow trolling Flatfish at 1.5 MPH, and speed trolling Apex's at 3.0. The key right now seems to be location for me. Find a few fish and pound that area, there are likely more.

That's right Mr Sockeye, FF's are like flashlights, if you see one deer in your light there is a forrest full of them waiting for ya. Looks like you had a great day out there Big_D and there will be plenty more for you too.....Jetspray

I was just sitting around here late and thought I would check up on Pyramid. Even though I recently moved to AK, Pyramid is still tops on my list of places to fish.

Glad to hear you caught a few. Those fish are just something else. My last few times out were pretty meager. Ahhhhh well, had some fantasticl days. Good luck to all and keep posting up so I get my fix.

So MJ, do you ever spend those winnings or just enjoy saving them up so you can wave them at Big D * :)

Z *:)

Trust me when I tell you, Big D has his share of ($5 fins) to wave at the world. If it were not for his pathetic fantasy football team, the IRS would be knocking at his door!!!!
Tight lines all,
