Met up with Jetspray, Untalan1, Wolfden and Hunkfisher at the North Minden Staging area at 5 AM. Cgagex3 called and said he was running late. We left for the lake. Upon arriving problems arose. On going down to the north shore via the dirt road at the eastern edge of the beach the I went straight instead of bearing right and ended on the rocks on the point where I promptly got stuck. :-[ Unfortunately the others were following me. Untalan1 also got stuck as well. Fortunately by moving a few rocks we were able to get back on track in little time. :) We were able to get a good stretch of beach and started fishing at 6:20 AM. Hunk got the first and had the hot hand for the day catching 5 trout on Green Gulp. I managed only one fish but it was a healthy 2 1/4 pounds and fell to a 1/4 oz gold Kastmaster. Untalan1 managed a nice one. All though not everyone caught fish all had strikes and enjoyed one of the most beautiful winter days I can remember. At a little after 11 Mr. Sockeye and crew came by and told us that they had caught 7 fish but were tired of the little guys and were heading for Pyramid. How beautiful was the day? There was even one water skier out on the lake. Imagine how popular he was. >:( Dave, Cory, Brad, Todd, Eferen It was wonderful fishing with you on this wonderful first day of what should be a wonderful New Year.

PS. Brad. Sorry about PSU ;) ;D

That guy in the last pic is frickin crazy. The water was 40 degrees. Looks like you got the hog of the day Richard. We heard of a 4 pounder coming into the store. Of course this was all just "fisherman's tales." I didn't see the fish, so I can't confirm nor deny. The biggest fish that we brought to the boat was a whopping 13 inches. The #1 pattern was a set of blades towing a worm. Unbelievably, the fish wanted a fast presentation. We didn't get a bite unless we were going 1.9 MPH or up. My boat had a tough time getting going this morning. We had only one fish when some of the other boats had 2-3 fish. Then we caught fire and caught 6 more quickly. Hopefully there are some bigger fish out there.

If you look close I think that ski guy was wearing a dry suit and some thermals. Just doing one of those nutsoid things to show off. The day was fun and CC came through as well as Hunkerfish (almost a limit one he snagged with a line and bobber attached).....Jetspray

Great way to start out the year guys even if it was my first skunk in months. I guess I can look at the bright side, I got my skunk out of the way now so the rest of the year will be golden.
Couldn't have asked for nicer weather on a January 1st and the company was good enough to make the lack of fish unimportant.

See you guys up the hill in May if not before.

Great report Captain. Fishing was fair at best but I saw several quality fish on shore and on boats. Those clowns in the ski boat have been going out there for years on opening day and they intentionally ski close to the fishermen. If they come close enough to me, I'm hooking them...it would be a great fight! ;) ;D ;D

Great report and pics guys.

I'm a little confused, I see snow, water skiing, jackets and short sleeves.....was it warm or cold? ;)

I also see what sniffers do best, catchin' fish & BS'n. I'd say that was a good time and a decent opener.

Although there is fresh snow all around the lake yesterday was over 50F for the high and was a-typically warm. Today it's a blustery mess with winds over 40mph. What a difference a day makes. :o

Glad to see you guy’s had a great time. I will be fishing with Efren on Saturday hopefully I can put him on a big one if not at lease one that is over 14 inches

Chic I don't doubt that you will find the best place to fish on Pyramid, have a great time in the morning. The BS circle was only missing the cameraman CC, but he added his comments about the football game going on. They were listening to Wolfden's satellite radio to the play by play, not missing anything as far as I could tell.....Jetspray

What a great start to new year. Mr.Sockeye took the Catfish king and me out to Topaz in the am. It started cold and slow for us. Then Mr.S found the hot set up and caught four of our seven. The Catfish king caught two I got one. We had one double and almost a tripple, but two got off in short time. We all were talking about Pyramid so off we went. We started off at a new spot for all of us and it was slow, not one hit. Mr.S told us to reel in and he would put us on a few before it got dark. Mr.S let me use his downrigger as the Catfish king used the other. Thanks Mike. We caught four and I got three of them ;) I will say Mr.S didn't fish Pyramid very hard. I think he felt bad the Catfish king and myself didn't do so hot at Topaz ;D ;D ;D He did hook what I think Gene St.Dennis would call an unseen monster that swims the deep until it took his lymen. Any ways it was fun fishing with you guy's thanks.
Tight lines GT.
