okay so let me start by saying that this is my first post! i have been reading all of your guys reports for a bout a year now and have met some of you_hunkfisher-captain compassion. i figured it was about time to fially start posting my fishing trips as i fish almost twice a week in the tahoe and amador area and figured my info might help you as i now many people at resorts and game wardens personally. i am a spin fisherman, troller, and a fly fisherman. i have fished the east and west carson for 4 months straight now. on to the report! ;D So arrived at the west carson wensday at sorrensons bridge at about 530 am. it was still dark out so waited till the sun rose and walked down below the bridge. I was very pleased when i saw 8 to 10 monsters between 4 and 10 pounds. i know these are donaldson trout after my discussion with todd at carson river resort.(good friend) knowing this i came prepared with 6 # test and micro jigs. first cast into the clear pool and BAM first fish on! after a 5 minute battle i had him in *the net! checked the hand held scale and he came in at 6 pounds! tied on another mini jig and after a couple cast BAM! fish number 2! got him in the net and checked the scale 5.5 # one hell of a way to start the day! next couple cast the fish started growing weary of my jig so tied on the WEST CARSON KILLER shown to me by one of my buddies whos a fly guide in bishop! first cast and BAM! after a longg battle got him in and checked the scale! 5.5 #! threw the fish in the cooler and decided to leave some for others! headed down to the East Carson at pebble beach. some fisherman were leaving saying that the fish had lockjaw and that i wouldnt catch anything.so i was optimistic and decided to try my CARSON KILLER and after 2 cast, BAM! fish on! fish took off under the deep banks and managed to get tied up in twigs luckily i got him off and out into the open water! after a ten minute fight i got him in! checked the scale and he came in at 7.1 # i was thrilled! decided to try to go for 5 and after a couple more cast...BAM! fish on got him into the net just as he threw my CARSON KILLER and checked the scale 5#! total wieght 29 pounds! went to the resort to talk to todd and we had a cup of coffee after he took some pics! he said that he only has the money for maybee one more plant so get out there boys! :) i caught a couple planters lso and returned them to fight another day! on my way back to sacramento i stopped by the sorrensons bridge and saw a couple older men rying to snag the big guys hiding under the boulder by the second hole! i told the that i am good friends with the wardens and that they needed to stop or i would have the warden there in minutes! they tried snagging for a couple more minutes till my demeaner sent them packing. im not a small guy and i am not afraid to confront snaggers! *i am going there wensday or thursday if anyone would like to join me!

Great first post!! The only issue I see with a post like that is how are you going to beat it.

Thanks for looking out for our fishery not many people would of actually said anything.

5 Trout going 29lbs is pretty awesome, as prior poster noted about as good as it gets. That said, did you note they were just stocked by a resort? Not to quibble, but similar to hitting some of the trout fish farms, but either way, very fun.

hey cb,
glad that someone caught them! we came too late, and most of the large fish were gone. saw the slugs at pebble beach. great job! :D

Nice first post, mine was a skunk, so I made it easy for myself to improve, you've set the bar pretty high for yourself. ;D *That is by far and away the most impressive bag I've seen, probably in my whole life. *Keep the posts coming, maybe I'll run into you sometime, I'm finding myself in that area more and more. Donaldson strain rainbows are what they put in Amador, correct? I wish they would do that in the Reno Area, I have no idea why they don't stock the Idlewild Ponds with some of those monsters, or the Truckee , or the Marina for that matter.

;)Wow GET R done..................NICE GOT to GO.

Thank you MR. Sockeye for the kind words. to answer your question yes those are the same fish they put i Amador. Todd from the resort orders the fish from susanville. i will be fishing the east and west carson tomarrow. im in a little white toyota pickup with a trout and cowboy sticker on the back!hope to bring my boat out and help battle those fly guys at Heenan with you sometime! ;D

Cowboy - Welcome to the forum and that's one HELLOVA first post. My only problem is that I can only see the tails of most as they are sized way too large for the forum. The max width in pixels should be 475 as that size fits nicely in the column. Height doesn't matter so keep that in mind next time you've got lunkers to get us drooling over!

You can find more picture posting tips in the "Talk To The Sniffer" board.

And, YEAH! Keep the posts and pics coming as I love to see and learn more about higher elevation Amador County. I'm at 500' at Lake Amador.

Thank You for the tips Yak Motor. unfortunently im not very up to date with computers so when i get these fixed ill upload them so you can see the whole fish ;) ive read tons of your post when Amador was up and running during the past two winters! you take amazing photos my friend! ;D im only fishing the rivers till Amador gets going and then its time to bust out the boat and get to work! you are welcome to join me whenever you like and once again thank you for the tip. ill be sure to post my pics of tomarrows trip!

Holy Crap Cowboy...now thats how you do it!! I think I have met you before at carson valley resort. I useally stay at todd's place 3-4 times a year. He is a great guy with some great info. Great to hear you kicked the snot out of those fish..well done and great report!!

Great trip report and picks those are some serious fish. Just curious about this Carson Killer I am a fly rod man myself and was wondering if this carson killer is top secret or public knowledge. I try to make it to carson when I have the chance but never landed anything over 20" on a fly rod, but that carson killer seems like something that could change that. Just curious as to that special fly......

Wow Cowboyfisher,
I have not ever caught that much weight in a trout day of my whole life. I am interested to know more about the west carson; I hit Heenan/ and the east Carson last Friday with my bro who was lure fishing. We loved the area. I drove over the west carson on the way out down to 88. Was that resort too far off of 88 ?? It looked like a trickle in the west carson, so we just nailed the east fork. NICE JOB :)
I may be interested in a Heenan Trip on a friday sometime. I have tubes. Always looking for a cool person to fish with.
Rob :)

those are all planted trout

Planted? Yes indeed and aint they beauties.;) Unless you are fishing for Macks on one of the big lakes or way back in the hills most most fish you catch in the Sierra were planted at one point in time. Even most Browns.

CC aka Trout Truck Pops

sorry planters don't count in my book. And does anyone really need to keep a 29 lb. stringer of trout ?

Nice report and great pics for your first post! I would be happy with just one of those monsters a year, but that many in one day is great. I dont care what anybody says, If they were there, they would have fished had just as much fun and posted the pics. Great job keep up with the boards.

Those fish would make for some excellent fillets for brining and smoking. With holidays coming up, smoked fish could be served at parties and family dinners.

Yummmmmmmmmm [smiley=chowtime.gif]

Sorry, my intention was not to flame. Just voicing an opinion. Had I not self-edited and just posted the light hearted response to another post, maybe then...

No more puns today, promise.

the lure looks like a stonefly

Hey, did someone mention my name...............................LOL

stonesfly, I mean FAN...... [smiley=rollingstones.gif]

Sure it's got to fun catching those monsters in a scenic stream environment - that said, on the "planted vs so what debate", yes, it's true, at some point all fish were planted to large degree, but then again if you wanted to just nail a bunch of huge freshly planted trout, you simply go to the fish farms and catch 20 lbs in 15 minutes, such as the ponds at SLTahoe where they charge by the pound, or follow the stocking trucks and catch them the hour after stocking. A balance is usually best, but bottom line is catching fish is fun. Too bad those monsters can't get upstream as noted for awhile..

Flame another post and I will delete the poster!
