View Full Version : Lake Almanor Browns and Bow Report 9/2/08

Took my wife and my dog up to Lake Almanor this morning to check out the fishing. *We didn't want to combat fish at the Hamilton Branch, so instead launched at Canyon Dam and headed across to the southeast shore. *Right near the intake tower I nailed the first fish, which was a 2lb. brown...

After trying the east side with no luck, we headed over to Geritol Cove and caught this 3lb. brown...

A few passes later, I lost another fish. *We then headed towards Rocky Point on the west shore and then I got this nice little rainbow...

It truly was a "dog day" of summer for our rat terrier...

I lost another fish (he even hit twice!) in front of the Rocky Point area. *Here's a view of Mt. Lassen in the background with no snow left...

Water temperature was 68-69 degrees. *All fish were caught slow trolling flies; tried the rapala but no love. *And all fish were released unharmed to fight another day!

As always PP very nice. The dog looks to be in hog heaven. The browns look to be in good shape. Thanks for the pics.

Nice PP as always. I may be heading up that general direction next month for a short camping trip. I may bump you for some info on checking out current conditions at Bucks and Almanor which I know ok and Antelope Valley, Butt Valley Mountain Meadows or Baum all of which are new to me.
I know that you are a fountain of knowledge up that direction.
Always enjoy your posts, keep them coming.
By the way never did hear if you made your way over to Caples & 88 last month.

Almanor looks like a special place and I'm going to have to get out there soon. Thanks for sharing PP. Great report as usual.

One thing I find interesting about Almanor is that the browns hit regularly in broad daylight. They usually will only hit in low light periods in most lakes at this time of year. Another very good report PP, thanks for the update. My dog is in dog heaven... bird season has began!

Hey PP... Long time reader first time replying. I am heading to Almanor for the next week (9/8-9/?), my wife and I have not had much luck catching, but it is a great lake for relaxation. If you have any helping ideas we would love the help. We are trolling usually. Dephs? Lures? Bait?

Thanks Zoomer
