Since the brown fishing is so slow at Independence Doc felt this post would not cause any sore spots with the brown eyed folks. *I had a great morning on the water in a beautiful place in my 12' with Doc. I picked his brains. I should have brought a tape recorder. * :-X

Met Doc at 5AM outside of Truckee and we headed to Independence to rip for Browns and down-rig for Cuts. We ripped the shoreline. The browns weren’t biting. So we switched to Cuts using Lyman plugs with the barbs pinched. Doc picked up a beautiful Cutthroat, which was released. I wish I had more time to gawk at the Cut but he needed to get back. He bolted nicely.

The caretakers said the fishing has been slow and only one good sized brown has been taken this year, at opening. I will have to do a campout so I can get some earlier morning ripp’n.

What a gorgeous place. The spring wildflower bloom is in full swing. It’s only 4 miles in from Jackson Meadows rd. but at a very slow pace 5 MPH. on a very rocky dirt road. Cost is $8 for boat and car. The ramp is primitive, the lake is full. The only other boat on the lake was a pontoon who asked “how do you fish this lake”? The wind came up big time and blew us off. (typical) I had to do a little wading to get the boat on the trailer, which ended in a bath. Refreshing tho * ;D

It’s going to be sad to see Doc go off into retirement land. He graciously gave me is old underwater video research system. New Toy. That’s going to be fun to play with. I also came home with 2 very nice reasonably priced ripping and downrigger reels/rods. * :)

Thanks for the great company Doc. Maybe we can do it one more time before you fly away to never neverland, I have to get a hat with stars.

Beautiful. A place where we get few reports from. Haven't been there in many a year. Hardly a friendly place for shore fishermen. Nice little Cutt Doc. Thank you Zands.
