Hello all... i decided to take the family up hwy 4 to Murphys for some lunch a few days ago. We traveled a few miles up to the town of Avery and started on the asphlt/gravel road and ended up at Mc Kay reservoir.
absolutely beautiful area without a soul in sight... any insight would be great reguarding the fishing reg's in that area. ;)

Never a good idea to ask for the regs. If someone (even unintentionally) gives you the wrong info, you still pay the fine. The DFG regs are cumbersome, but you're better off knowing for sure what thed regs are.
As far as the fishing there, hope someone knows what's there.

Glad you lilke our area! You might try calling Ebbetts PassSporting Goods here in Arnold at (209) 795-1686 and talk to Erik. He fishes McKays a lot, and we have talked about whether it can be fished legally prior to the opening of stream season the end of this month. Also, you may have noticed that you passed through several gates on your way down to the river - FYI, it's very common for those to be locked as we get into summer and fire season. There are some beautiful big browns in there!
