After being out of action for a week, Mike was ready to hit Berryessa for some Kings. From the start this was going to be a fun day. Good friends fishing together, good weather and a good report from some fellow fishsniffers that the king salmon bite was hot at Berryessa.

Mike was still a little under the weather when he picked me up at 6am at my house, but that was not going to stop hime from joining the gang today for some fishing. We met FisherMunn and Kokloloco at Markley and were joined on the water by Kyle from Crystal Basin Tackle, Ric Brown Mr. Kokaneemart and Steve Tucker and his buddy.

It wasn't long before the radios were buzzing with sounds of a fishing contest between boats. Four boats would compete for big limit stick and big fish. Game on said Mike and I.

We no sooner dropped our lines down and fish on, I landed the first king of the day in our boat, a nice cookie cutter 14"king. Not to be out done, MJKielty followed that up with a 19" king caught a 36'. We had our hopes up now. Three more to go and it was only 8am.

We all fished the Skiers Cove area and the bite was wide open for about two hours. Our best depth was 51' with a glow hoochie and a sling blade. At about 11am MJKielty yelled fish on and this one was screeming line out. About 3 minutes later this fish had gone around two down riggers and was in the biggest tangle we had every seen. This king was the biggest of the day and we didn't want to loose him. After about 5 minutes of trying to get the fish untangled from the mess we had this 21" monster in the net.

At noon all four boats met at a small cove near where we had been fishing to see who had the big fish and limit. With the two large kings Mike and I had put in the boat, the other boats just started paying up. We sat around talking and telling stories of the ones we had lost that day. Mike and I boated 21 kings, 11 kings returned quickly to the depths to be caught another day. Great day, great weather, great friends and lost of BS on the radio.

On the way out in the morning from Markley

Second king of the day, a nice 19" caught at 36'

Kyle and FisheMunn looking for Kings

21" 3lb king in the box by Mr. MJKielty

This is what a big king can do in 3 seconds when they get near the boat

FisherMunn hooked up on a King

Taking a little break and comparing stories

Our best limit stick and two biggest kings for the day

Lunch time

Mike needed his medicine to make it all day

MJKielty was beat after reeling in all those kings

It sure was fun out there today. We missed the pow wow at the cove? I'm sure we spoke with a few of you on 69. What a good time. The two Kings you got are really nice!

Well it's time to take a nap I'm exhausted. 8-)

Nice Report Gents!

Appreciated the on the water report this morning.

I'm still bummed about missing out on the action today! I'm well into my second dose of my own medicine and starting to get over it.

I'm hoping you guy's left a few for my Grandson on Sunday :)

Way to get back in the action Mike! Your little time on the bench didn't slow you down!

Don't spend all that money before I get a crack at it!

I had a blast out there today. Unfortunately I had to give back the money I won at Folsom. I'm down but not out. Next time. [smiley=bananachaga.gif]

Great day on the water today Team Kokaneemart.com. I was looking forward to it for the last 6 days while in Sick Bay. It was worth the wait! Now, as soon as I can swallow I will be eating those perfect fillets. And, with a few extra dollars that I collected from the squad, might even have a nice bottle of wine!
Steve, as always, throughly enjoyed it man. Can't wait till next time.

Another fine outing for team Kokanneemart!! Enjoyed everyone's company! One of the best days for bigger kings! A nice break in the cove was awesome. Too bad my 19.5" king was to late to enter. Oh well there's always the next time. Could be out on Sunday.

Looks like a great day on the lake there's just one thing.

OK guys all these boat pics and I don't see stars any where. whats up?

03-31-2007, 08:36 AM
Stars fly proudly on the Crestliner. You just can't see them in the photo. Ken (Fishermunn), are you flying stars on your North River?

03-31-2007, 08:41 AM
MJK I knew you had them, just couldn't see them.

03-31-2007, 09:05 AM

The fishing, the weather, the radio banter and the company couldn't have been better! We fished in Kyle Neeser's beautiful new Crystal Basin Guide Service boat and had a fantastic time. We had a good early start and then were killed late in the game by "fourth quarter Kielty" and his secret weapon. I'm sure you soaked your shad in the liquid pain killer and then fished it. ;)

Is that the new scent from Pro-Cure? What is it called...Strikeagain? Or was it a cold remedy Triafinic? Sorry but it just hurts trading that same $5 bill with you all year!! ;D

Steve (Rodbender) and Fishermunn and all...it was a great day on the water and I like our new tradition...taking a shore break and swapping lies!!! Great pictures and a great time....

again, soon!

I agree, a great day of fishing. This is Modesto John, I guess someone just gave me that name huh? with my new little radio it was nice talking to and hearing from you guys. Fishermumm or Kokaneemart - do either of you have the nice blue aluminum w/canopy with a Pro-Cure sticker? If so, you guys launched just before me at Markley. BTW, nice boat. I took all the advice I could hear, but the best seemed to be that orange Needlefish w/no dodger. I didn't mean to rub it in with my little comment of outfishing all you guys ;). I've just never caught my limit in anything so fast, let alone Kings. Is the hot bite there this time of year common? Does it stay this way throughout the summer? Anyway, I don't know when I'll be back...at 210 miles round trip, it makes for a long day. For the next month or so, Ill be in the Delta and Melones.

03-31-2007, 02:22 PM

Yes, that was us in the new blue NR. It was awesome to fish from! You did real well out there and yes...it dosen't upset us at all that you outfished us on one of our honey holes. No...its no problem at all...none at all...huh unh... no issue with us...we didn't even notice till you reminded us...but no...no issue with us... :-[ JK!

Hey send me that PM with the info for your next jaunt! See you soon....
and please bring a banana!!!! [smiley=bananachaga.gif]

03-31-2007, 03:41 PM
JPFX, remember.."You didn't out fish us..you fished with us". *;)

I was the guy you were talking too on the radio..glad to hear the needlefish worked. That lure has always produced fish at Berryessa.

When you're making a long trip like that it always helps to get a limit of fish! Nice talking to ya..

Thanks to Ric and Gary for a good day on the new boat. I am glad I was able to show them the new guide boat and be able to be on the lake with all the others for a great day of fun and some BS fun on the beach at the end of the day. You are all a great bunch of guys. I hope that we all can make plans to do that again at one of the other lakes that we all like to fish some time soon. God only knows I need to get on the water..........................

Kyle, good to see you up at Berryessa. I know that is a drive for you from where you live. We are going out again this Friday. Might be a few changes in teams but you can bet it will be "Game on ". See you soon on the water.
