On the water about 9:00, off at 1:30, caught one 12" trout. Rained off and on but not too bad. Had two other good hookups, but lost them trying to put the boat in neutral. A couple of other ldrs. Two words; Pearl Bikini. All came at 20' @ 2.3 - 2.5 mph, around and west of New York Creek Cove .

Doh! *Well, I sure am glad that I posted the pic, but I feel a little embarassed. *[smiley=embarassed.gif] I thought the meat looked pretty red....

Needless to say, I am new to lake trout/salmon fishing. I am originally from SE Missouri, bass, crappie, catfish...

Thanks for id'ing the fish for me. *

Now, I may have to add a smoker to my X-Mas list!

I am glad you caught that king!

It is easy to tell a king from a trout just by the forked tail. They cook up good, but not as good as an ocean king.

Nice fish Blue Fin, I bet that was indeed tasty. I think after Santa brings your smoker you'll like them even more. :)

Well said. Smoking salmon, all kinds of salmon, just has a certain flavor that cannot be beat.

I was out there from 10-4pm as well, Lots on the meter just not a lot biting. I trolled across the dam, dyke8 and into the SF 2 short bites and 1 14" Holdover RBT
Beautiful fish and no bugs ;) nice and orange on the inside.

Got more rain after I got off the lake and drove home.

Sorry http://www.fishsniffer.com/forumsyabb2006/Smilies/mickey.gif I guess you were the only one I didn't try to get to go ;)

That was the only pic of @ 20 I tried to take that day that came out. I think santa needs to bring me a new camera, all the rest of my pics were a white out.

I will be out next sunday with my buddy from Chico-no not that one [Chicofisherman].

Thanks for posting the pic of the Rainbow.

Now, I can tell the difference between a salmon and a trout. [smiley=homersimpson.gif] Doh!

I would be a lot better pic for an ID if the tail managed to get in the shot
;) there are a lot better shots on here in the Trout Pics Thread.

Please donít take this the wrong way, Iím not being a smart a$$. The following link is a set of waterproof cards with ID of freshwater fish. A couple years ago, someone gave me a set, which I lost, but while I had them they helped a lot. For 9 bucks it a nice thing to have on your boat. http://www.identicards.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=1097&idproduct=5074&prod=Fi sh%20Ident-I-Cards

No worries Irish, I don't easily take offense. I think if you can't laugh at yourself, you're wound too tight.

I am a newbie to NorCal fishing, and I appreciate all the tips and support I get here on the 'Sniffer!

A few other ways to tell the dif between a rainbow (and steelhead) and king salmon

Anal fin (on bottom behind vent) RB 10 or 11 rays, KS 12 to 14

Inside mouth of RB is white, KS mostly black

Spots on RB small and round, KS irregular

When you go to Nimbus hatchery, it's fun to find the steelhead among the salmon. BTW, there are some real monsters there now. Some must be at least 15 pounds.
