Just have the correct leader length for the type of action you want !

Fast: 1 - 1.5 X Med: 2 X Slow: 3 - 4 X (dodger length )

You can use bigger lures with a 6" dodger also.

18" or more for Mc's............. ;)

All of us have thrown the "kitchen sink" at them, to get the "magic setup" !!

Good luck Ed

I started out using Slingblade dodgers and they worked great. Then someone said use a 4/0 dodger so I did and it worked great. Then someone said use a 2/0 dodger so I did and it worked great. The last time I was at Shaver I used a Slingblade and I caught a limit of fish. The only thing I found was with the Slingblade and the 2/0 dodger I could troll a little faster than I could with the 4/0 dodger. Everything else was just about equal. The 4/0 trolled best around 1.0 to 1.2 mph the 2/0 and the Slingblade I could troll at 1.5 to 1.7 and they would not spin.
Good Luck maybe I will see you on Shaver.

Like the other guys said, it really comes down to personal preference and what the fish are hitting at the time. No one size is correct. I typically use a 4/0 but will go bigger if I need to increase speed or something of that sort.

I think Ed is right on.
I have found that you can troll faster with the sling blade.
When going after Kokes I troll slower and use a side kick or a 4 dodger.
It also depends on the action you need from your bate or lure.
Using bait, spinners, bugs, I shorten the distance between the troll and the bait, for more action. For lures like Repala I back off to about 18 from the troll.

Irish talked about spinners . These lures will cause line twist !

Make sure you use quality swivels & maybe a "rudder" also.

Twists in x-light leaders is a real pain.....get it right the 1st time.

Good luck Ed
