Just picked up a new Lamiglass 7'9" paired up with a Shimano Stratus reel for kokanee and am now reviewing my other baitcasting rods for the upcoming fall trout season. For use with a downrigger, what is your favorite trolling rod?

I also just picked up a new rod and love it! ;D It's Vance's 7ft Custom Spiral Wrap rod. For $59.00 you can't beat the quality and action for a medium/light sized rod!

If you want to spend the bucks there are alot of nice rods out there but if you're looking for a quality rod for a reasonable price then I would go with either the Shakespeare Catera Rod or the smiliar verison made by Fuji. Both are 7' utralight rods with great action! For $39.00 for either of them you can't beat the price for the quality you get!

I've caught some nice trout on either rod and they work great! If you're just fishing for trout and kokanee I would recommend those three rods. :D

Hey Trout Terminator, I bought 2 of Vance's rods too. I love them. I found them at Long Drugs at Lake of the pines.. I also bought a Shakesspear Catera ultra light( 7' ) at the same store. You can buy Vance's rods on line too.

Vance's 1st edition spiral wrap, with an Abu Garcia 4600 C4. A bit heavy for the pee-wees...but just the thing for those fish you really don't want to lose, and I don't care about the throwbacks.

I use a Fenwick HMX 8 foot 6 inch. med rated for 4-10. I have two matching set ups that I fish off the sides, the xtra length provides a little better spread between lures.

As for a reel I'm currently using the Cabelas MSP 200 I like them so far. I have found it challeging to find a reel with a clicker for downrigger fishing that is not set up to run 275 yards of 17 lb test.

Trout Terminator,

I got my Vance's rod at a Precision Marine in Sacramento. I know that Wild Sports in Citrus Heights has them too or you can order them directly from Vance's website. On Vance's website he also has put out a new 7' 6" ultra light rod that looks great too! But it's $79.00. The action with these rods in fighting trout and kokanee is fantastic! ;D The quality you get for what they cost make them the best bargain for rods that I've seen! ;)

For reels I have a Pflueger, 2 Brownings, and a Daiwa.

My dad and I both have the 7' and 7'6" rods from Vance. I typically use the 7'6" rod on the downrigger and it works great. The action is amazing, but yet it has enough backbone in case you happen to get on to a big fish. Great rods, especially for the price!

I had a one piece 7'6" Seeker custom made for me this past winter. The person that made it, spiral wrapped the guides for me. I put a Okuma Catalina line counter reel on it. About the only place that I have used it has been on Pyramid Lake. So far I have like the performance of it.

I would have to say my favorite trolling rod is my Vance's custom spiral wrap 7'rod with a Daiwa SG17LCA. It out fishes my others. I love the action on it. It may be a little harder to find but it's well worth it.
