Was going to head up the the cabin in grayeagle to fish Davis for the week, but with the conditions and the lake still being frozen and the cold weather, the rest of the family decided to not go, so I was solo. Talk to Mark (Fishmaster)and he also planned to fish Davis the same week, well needless to say he's plans also fell thru and he also was going to be up there solo.
So we decided to fish and fish hard. We Put a game plan together and away we went. We left wed night around 4pm for Beckswourth, Mark's place. Arrived around 8pm unpacked and got the gear ready for the next day.
Day 1 Lake Almanor
Mark and I never fished Almanor So we relied on some tips from a couple of Hookers (Thanks), who pointed us in the the right direction. Arrive at Lake Almanor at 7am with temps in the 20's and overcast skies. The dock was frozen and there was snow around the shore.

Took a 10 min boat ride and Headed Stiaght over to Hamilton beach where we got some good tips. Wow was that a cold ride We heard that smelt were spawning and tight to shore last week, so we decided to try fishing tight to shore. We trolled the entire east and west shore for 5 1/2 hrs for nothing not even a bump. We tried everything in the tackle box, then went back and started over again for nothing. Decided to go back to the boat launch and fish the west shore from the Dam to about 1/2 mile south. There we started to get some hits. Finally had our first fish to the boat at 12:45 on a f-11 rapala at 35ft otw, and it was a 18" salmon, great looking fish. Thought it was a fluke went back down and Bam Mark hooks up another salmon on a rapala. So after cathing a couple more Salmon, we decide to switch our gear to fish for Salmon , and wouldn't you know it, we started to get into some trout and a couple of small browns and a smallmouth This went on till around 6pm were we managed 16 fish from 12;45 to 6pm. 8-salmon ranging from 16 to 20 inches biggest a little shy of 3lbs, 5-trout to 18" amd 2-browns to 16" and 1- 2lb Smallmouth

That does look like some great fishing once you got into them.
Almanor can be a very fickle lake.
How bad was the ramp conditions for launching?
Oh and if I may ask, what color Rapalas were you using for the fish?
I may be heading up there in about a week or so.
