Woke up this morning with 4 inches of snow on the ground and still falling. The Cal-trans web page had chains on 88 just west of the California border. Decided I wasn't going up to look at the Rivers today. By noon the clouds had somewhat lifted and the controls on 88 were off. Changed my mind. ::) Headed up 88 with lots of new snow on the ground but the road clear and for the most part dry. First stop was the West Carson at the 89 bridge. The river was high and off color but definitely fishable. I found the same conditions at the 89 bridge. Most of Hope Valley has a blanket of snow. This includes the shore so water proof boots are in order. Going back down the canyon I checked the White Bridge, Crystal Springs and the river at Woodsford. The water is swift in the canyon but no worse than usual. Next I headed up 89 toward Markleeville. Markleeville creek was high but fairly clear. Checked the East Carson above the Carson River Resort. The River was getting high but the color was good (for now). A couple of warm days could turn it to Nestles Quick. At of the places I checked no fish were marked. This doesn't mean that there are no fish. Last year I didn't mark any fish prior to the opener and it turned out ok. Reports say that these waters have been stocked by Alpine County and more may be added before Saturday. Currently 88 is clear with no controls. With improving weather for Friday and the weekend this should remain so. Dress warm for cold mornings but keep in mind that temps may rise into the low 60s by the afternoon. See you on the water.

looks perfect to me :)

Been cool up there the last couple of days. The E. Carson is in good shape. Much clearer than the W. Carson. A couple of warm days could change things. Good Luck on the EC.

wife unit is making dinner and I am sorting out my tackle box. I showed her the pics and now she is really excited for the weekend.

we were gonna bring the camper but the repair shop isnt going to be done with it in time.
it was her idea to tent it instead of getting a room in Tahoe on saturday night. LOL

I love that you can camp right on the EC , wake up, grab a cup of joe and practically catch fish from your tent. ( I actually have in camp spot #7 )

you seem to have the area wired....what is your favorite lure for the EC ?

East Carson is flowing 433 cfs, down from around 800 before the storms. A few warm days and it will be up again. I don't like to wade above 200, but then I'm old. Even the guides I know don't like it above 300.

Be careful out there on the opener.
