Also known as the 5th of May in my native tongue. Took my dog fishing today and got the first line in the water at 2:39 p.m.. Put out the usual 2 white power eggs dipped in scent. First cast I didn't like the positioning so after 15 minutes of nothing I re-casted to the hole. 5 minutes later I got my first fish a 3/4 pound rainbow.

Was a beautiful day with a strong wind. 2nd fish came around 3:15 on the same set up. Had no luck on the lures today. I caught my 3rd trout, a 9 inch fish,at 3:40. Unfortunately the fish were swallowing the bait today so each fish was a bleeder which meant it was a keeper. I find it hard to release most trout went using bait since very seldom are they hooked in the mouth. Caught #4 at 4:12, which may have been a pound and the biggest fish of the day.

Played a little fetch in between fish with my dog. Sometimes he want's to explore so back on the leash he goes.

About 4:39 I reeled in and re-casted since I wasn't in the kill zone. I thought I felt a tap, tap right when the bait hit the water. Told myself that was too quick so I turned away and looked back to see my pole doubled over. Picked it up and right as I set the hook the fish gave a big pump. Felt good, thought I might have a big one at first. The fish fought hard the whole way in and ended up being close to a pound. I think nearly every time I have taken the dog fishing I have limited. Going to have to take him to Chabot and try out my luck.

Limit with the proud dog

Got the Fillets on the smoker right now.

congrats. i have a buddy that lives about 5 minutes from that lake and everytime we go we catch fish. i like that little lake. i too like using the white power bait, of my two poles in the water during our last outing, the one with spring green power bait caught 3 to 1 on the white power eggs. i also have done decent with a white power egg and air in a worm off the bottom.
its either i am good at fishing, we were lucky or that fact that we saw the bald eagle. i am going with all three.
good luck on future outings.

Haven't seen the bald eagle up there in a while. A month ago the osprey were bombing the water every ten minutes, pretty cool sight.

yeah we saw him in the middle of march. i have not seen one in the wild, up until this year, and i used to live in the mountains and do wild land fire fighting. but this alone i have seen two at the same time at pardee taking fish out of the water, then one at bon tempe and two at stumpy meadows. and so far have not been skunked when i have seen one, or two.

I've always did well at Bon Tempe fishing in the afternoon on the west side of the lake. I've noticed that inflated night crawler tends to get bigger fish. I love Bon Tempe, the west side is great given all the shade and being surrounded by redwoods! GOOD FISHIN' TO YOU ALL!:trout:
