was just wondering if live bluegills are allowed for bait? im getting mixed answers, some say they're legal and some say they arent. i heard that you can use live bluegills but just no transporting right? thanks.

U can use live blue gill for bait .... Just don't transport them...

Also depends on where you're fishing at. The delta allows you to use them but a lot of the lakes doesn't

Check your regs. Bluegills would qualify as "lawfully acquired and possessed fin fish".

what about cut shad? i know you can fish live shad, because everyone does it, but i heard you can't cut shad up for bait. i've always fished blue gills, same thing, can't transport them into other waters, and on the sacramento river, north of i80, i was told by the fish and game, you can use black bass as bait and that there are no size limits on black bass. stripers are supposed to love black bass.

thanks guys for the info. i was using bluegills as bait because i saw someone else using it and we both caught 20+ in stripers. actually mine was 20 inches and he caught a 22 inch. thanks. was going to put on some pics but not very computer smart.
