View Full Version : 5-25 Sturgeon Fishing Report, Suisun

Yes I went out on Tuesday with a 70% of rain & 10-20mph winds predicted. Had 3 guys from Mt. Ranch that wanted to go sturgeon fishing, so off we went to Suisun. Hit 4 of my favorite spots for the day for no bites at all, unbelievable, a first for me. 3 of 4 spots had a lot of grass below to deal with on both tides and we did mark a lot of fish. We used grass & ghost shrimp along with roe and even threw out a few anchovies.

Oh yeah, I threw out one other item as well. I said I wasn’t going to tell anybody but as you know we all enjoy a good laugh and stuff happens. With everything wet, I went to cast out my set up with ghost/grass combo and 10 ounces of weight to combat the strong current and grass moving things around. Forgot to put the reel in free spool as we’ve all done and instead of just slinging the bait off and slamming the weight on the swim step, the rod slipped and it sailed out about 10 feet behind the boat to sink out of site. I told them you’d be amazed at what I will do to entertain the guests. I’ve been fishing my whole life and this is the 1st pole ever lost. AAAAAARGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

Doug, Mike & 93 year old uncle Ephan where amazed at the weather conditions being flat, lake like water until about noon. Ephan is a veteran of WWII with 25 years in the air force and was a kick to talk to having flown in B-25’s and many other vintage aircraft as a tail gunner. 1st thing I did was shake his hand in thanks for his service to our country and told him his next trip was on me. Then the winds started at noon with rain about 2pm. We saw 3 boats all day long. It's back to striper trolling for me and then off to do some lake trips with Berryessa and Oroville next.

Have fun
Capt Danny

Thanks for the report... it seems that sturgy fishing have died, though a few diehards do swear to catch them year round in the delta.

Sturgies can be caught year round in the delta. I've seen it with my own eyes...Though it wasn't my rod that hook it.
BottomLine: Sturgies live in the delta too, And you know Sturgies gotta eat sometimes. They're not robots. You've just gotta wait em' out. Good report. I wish I had a boat like yours to even make a report like this
