I am looking for a 4-6 hp motor for my little 12 ft boat. I have been using just an electric motor to get around which is fine for some of the local lakes but I really need something gas powered to get where I need to go so that the wind doesn't always win, any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

The small Honda's seem to be fine motors, but I'm no motor whiz. Maybe if you re-post this under 'Boats, Motors & Gear' you will better advice.

I use a 5 HP Briggs & Stratton on my 12 foot boat. It's a very good, reliable motor and is considerably cheaper than Mercury, Honda, Nissan and other motors. I think because these other motors have more name recognition. The only drawback of the Briggs and Stratton is that it doesn't have a "lock in position tilt feature". It all depends on how important that feature is to you.

I have a 5 hp Briggs & Stratton sitting out back. It was used one season about three years ago. I will get it out and put it through an operational check if you’re interested in it.

Yes I am very interested in your 5hp motor. What year is it and what price range would you be looking to sell it at? Thanks for the post back

KlamathJack,

I sent you a PM…I think.

Let me know if you got it.
