Once again I picked up Jetspray at 0645 and headed for ICR. The days have been fairly warm for this time of year but the nights cold. Arriving there at 0710 my worse fears were realized. The lake has mostly re-frozen. At the launch shore the trout carnage still remained. Below the ice there were a couple of dozen dead brookies. These were nice fish in the 1# to 2# class. What a waste. I suspect these fish were stocked Monday and died to thermal shock. The good news that a quantity of these nice Brookies remain alive below the ice. Decided to head to Topaz lake and arrived on the North shore shortly after 0800. The weather was cool and the winds calm. We fished there until 1130 catching 2 bows. Topaz is high for this time of year and little water is being drained via the canal. Thanks for going with me day. A wonderful day.

What caused those trout to die? Too cold of water for hatchery fish?

That would be my guess. The DFG usually doesn't stock with water below 45 degrees I suspect that water temps at ICR were mid to upper 30s.

Hey CC or anyone else. I was thinking of takin a drive out to ICR this afternoon. I have never drove out there in winter. would I be able to make it out there in a Two wheel drive truck with good tires? And witch way should i go. I have never been the back way and was wondering how to get there from that way. Well thnks in advance. Awesome reoprt.

That's unfortunate. I could use some of those trout where I live! I have to drive hours just to get to good trout waters...
