View Full Version : Hunting San Pablo Bay Wildlife refuge

So the San Pablo Bay Wildlife refuge is directly behind my house in Novato. I read the regs and it says it's a Type C refuge and huntable all days of the week. I know there are several floating duck blinds at the southern end, however I never hear any shooting. I always see ducks when I'm out fishing. Is it just too tidal to hunt affectively or is it a bird sanctuary? I puzzles me why I don't hear more people hunting out there. Anybody know what's up? I'd like to give it a go if it's huntable.

Its huntable alright. Those blinds are first come first serve. Give it a shot...
That's pretty cool you don't have to go far from home for some ducks!

Well I've been heading out there in my kayak the last couple weeks. I wasn't hunting the blinds, but instead chose to build my own inside the shadow grass. I've been shooting pretty decent. Mostly mallards and widgeon. My only complaint is that they're TOO close at times. My full choke has a hard time patterning at 15 yards.

yeah... it must be the choke.. :krzyhunter4ez: .

Seriously, way to get after them. Are you putting out any deeks or just pass/ jump shooting?
Seen anybody else out there?
