View Full Version : Mediocre day @ Pedro 1-27-12

Started the day bright and early with TwoFish. Met him at his campsite at MoccasinPoint. He stays there and camps/fishes 3days a week every week…Must be nice.
We took my boat for the day & left his at camp. He said the fishing the day before was slow& was hoping it would pick up for us today, it didn’t. It was slow too. We worked several creeks and bays on thenorth end of the lake. TwoFish picked upa couple of fish in one the bays with his famous Zoom Shad set up.
I picked up a nice little green bucket mouth on a needlefish as we trolled through a debris field that was a result of the recent rain.

Another little one on his way in.....

http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k500/Schatgun/SAM_0154.jpgWe picked up another one or 2 trout here and there….Nothingof size. We looked for bait & birdbut none were to be found. TwoFish hadto be back by noon bc he had to head back to the bay area for his parents B-dayparty so I dropped him off at the ramp and headed back out to look for somemore action. Again, I looked all overfor bait & birds and couldn’t find any so I just dropped my gear andstarted trolling again with my fingers crossed. I slow rolled a lot of shad throughout the area as well as spoons, spinners and what-nots….at all different depths and colors….Nada.

A beautiful day none-the-less...
I made back to the ramp right around 2. Talked to a couple of other guys thatexperienced about the same amount of luck we did. Just one of those days as far as catchinggoes but a great day on the water with a good friend….weather was nice….a littlefoggy/overcast to start than beautiful sunshine later in the day. Water temps ranged from 52.1 to 54.3 andstill very clear even after the rains.
Hitting New Melones next Thursday…I hope the bite improves….doesn’tlook like the moon will be in our favor…oh well….I just love being out on thewater.

When I got back to the trailer I picked up a message telling me the birthday celebration was rescheduled for Sunday.
So, I did a few chores and helped the neighbors get their trailers set up, then I went back out to take one more shot at them before I drove home.
It was still pretty dead. I marked some bait and some fish upriver, between the buoy line and the island. I picked up another small trout on the surface.
Just as it was getting dark the lake seemed to come alive. Lots of birds feeding near the houseboats and the fish started jumping again. I picked up two 19" trout while there was just enough light to see my line. Then I got another one, about 17", when it was completely dark.
It always amazes me how things can change so quickly. The lake was quiet all day. Glassy calm, but no action. Then, as if someone flipped a switch somewhere and the water's surface just lit up.
Schatgun, we'll give it another shot on another day.

Typical...always red hot right before I get there & then red hot right afte I leave:bananadevil:......I need to stop announcing my fishing trips and try to sneak onto the water before the fish realize its me....
