View Full Version : My final for the year for Amador 5/22 [ pics ]

Warning: pic heavy...

Mariahpup (MP) called me about either shad or trout. But when the time came he saw some decent posts on Amador so trout it was. We got there and waited for the gate to open at 05:00. We got paid up and as we come out two gentlemen greet us. It was Miwokfisher (MF) and Calndn (CN). MP had talked to CN the day before and they said they would be there. Everyone set up bait rods but I reserved one rod for throwing lures and such. CN had a couple of super lite nibbles that never turned into anything in the first two hours we were there. We were starting to get the "Amador Skunk" feeling. The water was turning very green and VERY warm. I asked a boat going by what the temp was out there and he said 74!!!!!!

After a few hours of casting I put on a silver/blue Kastmaster and hooked up with this guy. Wrong species but what the hell. I needed to remember what a fish strike was like.

MP took a position that I think was based on the work bench as opposed to fishy looking water :action-smiley-034:

We kept trying every bait assortment we could come up with. All the colors of the rainbow were used on PowerBait and PE's and even crawlers. Nothing was getting a hit. We tried casting everywhere from semi-close to the long distance cast for nothing. We moved around a bit up and down the bank but within shouting distance of one another but couldn't find the bite. We only saw one fish caught and we could see and hear most everyone fishing.

CN was telling some lame fishing story telling me his fish was "this big" but in reality he was just tying a leader :nana:

We worked the water for over 7 hours until MP had to call it quits without a fish. Felt sorry for the guy and so I rode with him down the hill to pick up my car and return to fishing. MP and I are always bantering back and forth in good fun. I was telling him how he killed any possible bite just by being present and he was capping on me the same. So we drive off and I return in 5 minutes to see CN landing a damn fish!!!! I run from my car and say, "NO WAY" and he proceeds to tell me it was his second from the time I left with MP. I guess he IS a jinx!!! http://www.outcastanglers.com/forums/images/smilies/more/rofl1.gif

The fish that CN had landed were the 1 - 2 lb class. Just nice fish but didn't feel pic worthy at the time. Just moments later I look over at my rod in the holder and it is bent over pretty good. Thing is, it's not moving. Not at ALL. Looks like it was reeled into a snag and then left alone. I walk over there and tug on the line (not the rod) and it feels heavy. Then I feel a head shake and quickly surmised that a fish was on. It was about a 2 lb trout that probably hung up the sinker as I was helping CN. I was finally on the board with a trout instead of that green carp thing :)

Then I get a hit on my rainbow PB rod and it was fish on. Could tell he was a nice size and I had trouble keeping him out of CN's line. Managed to land this nice 4 lb 3 oz fish. I was finally not trout skunked!

At this time MF was off on the other side of the cove and not seeing much of this. A few minutes go by and CN is hooked up again. You can see his great fighting prowess photographed here LOL

He is getting close to landing it and I have my rubber net in hand when all of a sudden my other rod goes off. I leave him to fend for himself and work the fish in. Another nice 4 lb'r for both of us. It was a double even though his was almost landed by that time.

Then another for me. The largest of the day at about 5lb. Nice lip hook on him and quickly released. He hit on chartreuse PB.

Finally MF comes back from his exploring to join us again. Not long after he hooks into another 4 lb 1oz fish. Right on Miwok!!!!

From first to last fish was under 1 hours. Just a stream of bites with no explanation. So once the bite slowed down CN decided to have a snack on a couple of the bleeders which were the smaller ones he caught first.

I would call it quits around 15:00 and they stayed to fish on. I hope they will have something to add to this thread that I wasn't aware of.

It was nice meeting you guys. Had a great time shoot'n the breeze and hope to do it again soon!

Very cool stuff for so late in the season. Way to stick it out as well. Those are some chunky fish for sure. Sorry you missed the action MP. You guy's broke my pb a couple times over, lol. I want to hit that lake a few times next year, those fish pull hard and the average fish there is nice.

Psssst is that the secret salt MP has on top of the blue box :)

Gongratulations you guys...sorry I left a little early but my car was acting up on the way up and was worried about being stuck in the boonies should something quit...
Just as well I left, as I took my now well known jinx at Amador with me...in the 7 hrs we all fished together it was not just slow it was stone dead...save for bass caught by RideNFish..except for couple small nibbles on calndn rod ...10 min after I leave the bite starts...I will have to wait for the fall to get after Amador again.....
Great to meet calndn and miwok...they are big time fun fishing buddies and I am sure we will get after some more fish in the coming weeks..as for RideNFish...he will continue to mess with my head over fishing and other offbeat subjects..despite that he is heck of fisherman and friend...
Once again thanks for hooking up with me and I had great time even though I missed the bite..
Til the next time Mariahpup wishes Luck to All!

It's a good thing I wasn't there, because MP and I together at Amador are like some kind of "super" curse. Sounds like a great time!
