I belong to a fishing club in Sac and yesterday was our annual rockcod fishing trip. We started the day fishing around the North Farallon Island and the water was way dirtier than I've ever seen out there. I don't know if it was the amount of krill, algae bloom, or what. The fish didn't want to cooperate in the first several spots that we tried and I think it's just that they were full from the over-abundance of krill. Once we moved into some cleaner water, the fishing began to improve.
I started the day fishing an 8 oz. scampi with a white curly tail and then switched over to irons once we got onto a productive Lingcod reef. I also brought a couple of pounds of squid that I'd added salt and garlic flavoring to. I don't know if the garlic made it any better but it worked well none the less. The whales were also happy about all of the krill and put on areal-acrobatics for us all day. I ended the day with 9 rockcod and two very nice lings. The fish on the right won the jackpot.
A final thanks to the crew of the Sea Wolf who stayed after it until we found some success. That's what you're always looking for in a charter trip.

It was like September out there, little swell and very warm. You don't see too many of those days in June.
