View Full Version : Spicer 7/24 After the Storm

My good friend Bruce, aka Stonesfan, came up to the house Sunday night, for a trip to Spicer Monday morning. I was hoping to talk him into a little cat fishing at Melones that evening, but after the drive from Duck Island, a cold beer and a comfortable chair sounded better. Hit the sack but was awakened around 2am by nearly non stop Lightning. The storm was far enough away, I heard no thunder, but I seldom could count to 5 before the next bolt appeared. We recently moved, I now live up at 3500 feet, and the show was spectacular, to say the least
Well, after the storm , I was a bit anxious about going up to Spicer. We arrived to find several other boats out there, the parking lot damp from the rain, and the wind just a gentle breese, but by 10:30 it was blowing pretty good and was getting a little choppy.

Well, I'll make it short and sweet, we trolled as my usual spots, for two fish that make the Melones Kokes look like trophy's. The wind was blowing a bit, enough so I had trouble getting a lure change done. We ended the day near the ramp, being blown about 270 degrees and snagging all the lines on my downrigger. ;D ;D ;D Called it a day at 2:30.

It was my first trip to Spicers in a couple years, and the first since I acquired my little 14ft Klamath, and 15 hp Evinrude. Was very happy with the way that old style hull, (1974) and older motor, (1985) handled the rough water. The little Evi trolled right down to 1- 1.3 with out a complaint. I could not be more pleased.

Not many pictures, I had my hands full, as did Stoney in this first picture. We started out with the lines in, and a couple of High Mountain Bloody Marys.

Fish or no fish, I always have a good time with Stoney. Maybe getting together isn't always about the fish...

Thanks for coming up and spending the day! Sorry you had to leave before dinner was ready. ;)

Great report SteveO,
Glad you guys got out there. Obviously a good time.

I'm glad that boat is doing well. But I will have to see for myself one of these days. :-)
