Re: First time trolling - spinning reel?

BrotherWilliams, on post 32, you stated that you are “mostly a trout guy and would love to catch a salmon.” Are you saying you have never caught a river salmon??

    The OP asked about salmon...
  2. Re: Did the 20-hr service, boat not peeing water

I had a Honda 30 for 10 years so hopefully this info will help.

There are actually three holes where water comes in: two where you see the plastic water intake holes (where you put the muffs) and...
  3. Re: Topaz Opener. Weather variable, fishing excellent.

Looked like a great way to start the New Year. Congrats!!

Re: First time trolling - spinning reel?

Trolling is about repeatability. That’s why you see guides with all the same rods, reels and same size line....they need to repeat their success over and over again. Trolling can be very specific on...

    Re: Braided Line Help

Panther, good luck in your experimentation. Lots of advice given already, you just have to figure out what works for you.

My advice, use no less than 6lb diameter/20lb braid on a spinning reel....

    Re: Final season tally

Had four single fish trips and one blank trip. Each time I felt lucky since very few or only my boat had caught something. Last few years were better than this one. Instead of a big school coming...

    Re: Wishon 11/24

Troutinator, there are lots of 12-13” browns in Wishon, with a few in the +5lb range. Holdover rainbows can grow to the 25” range too. Opening of the gate in April through May are good times to fish...

Re: West Coaster 152 by Klamath recall

I would be upset too. You bought the boat because of its layout and now that layout has changed due to Klamath making a mistake or not keeping up with the CG regs.

    At this point, either accept...

    Wishon 11/24

Wife and I decided to hit Wishon one last time before the storms hit Tuesday, closing the road to the public for the winter. Lake level was at the bottom of the launch ramp, so no real problem...
  11. Re: How does west coast shad run compare to the east coast?

Besides the Sac, there are American Shad in San Luis reservoir and Millerton. At San Luis, one can usually find them near the pumps, year round, and at Millerton, they make a run up towards the log...
  12. Re: Courtright Reservoir still popping for bows

The plants lately at Courtright and Wishon should ensure some good fishing and some beautiful trout for the next two weeks and when the road re-opens up next spring.
  13. Re: Courtright Reservoir still popping for bows

Thanks for the report. Lots of fish over by the dam. This might be the last weekend up there with snow coming next week.

    Re: men are happier people

Pretty true. Forgot one thing, going to the bathroom- women ask if any other women need to go and often leave in a pack. If a guy did this, he's just plain weird.

    Re: Suggestions for Gear?

What part of Alaska? Are you fishing in the ocean, estuary or river? Are you going to be in a boat or on the shore? What time of the year and which type of salmon are you after? You staying at a...

    Re: Lake Tahoe 11/9

TahoeJeff, thank you for catching my mistake. The Sportsman is what I meant. The little shop ran and operated by Rick after he was getting out of guiding across from the Swiss Chalet.

    Courtright 11-9

Courtright or Wishon, Courtright or Wishon? Always a decision when heading east on the Dinkey Creek road from Shaver. Courtright got the nod this time and I arrived in the afternoon to a lake down...

    Re: Lake Tahoe 11/9

TahoeJeff, if I remember right, most Tahoe locals were for re-introducing cutts at Fallen Leaf since the lake was full of “rat macks” and a cutt fishery might do better. I even signed a petition in...

Have you asked questions? Have you done your own research?

I find it very interesting that you are attacking me for asking the questions you as a local should be asking.

    Re: Lake Tahoe 11/9

MKE, very nice looking rainbow and great pic of the lake.

If the Tahoe redside minnows are still in abundance at Fallen Leaf, the cutts should have no problem growing, especially since they are...
  23. Re: Are downriggers totally necessary to fish for kokes?

If fishing from your float tube, trolling of any kind will be difficult. If you have a sonar on the tube, your best option is to jig (my favorite technique for kokes). If no sonar, you can drift...

    Re: Wishon 10/26

If you drove to Florence lake, the road you used is called the Kaiser Pass Road. The Dusy trail is only for hardcore 4x4 vehicles and starts/ends on top of Kaiser pass. :encouragement:

Hooks, I bet when you drove the Kaiser road back in the 60's it was in better shape then today......horrible road now.
