Hostel is still operating. You can also park an RV overnight along the frontage road. The tidepool area has stayed picked pretty clean of ab's and mussels though. Still a lot of fish out there! ;)

Re: skiff fishing from santa cruz

When I lived in Palo Alto..some time ago...

    that was my favorite spot

To the left of the long beach just north of the lighthouse there are long slots in the rocks that used to be great for abs...and when the tide came in the perch did too!!

I've taken more perch out of that section than I could count and the holes there are great for lings like BC says...

    Easy access....lots of fish...beautiful scenery...choice

They had a hostel there for a few years...anybody know if they still run it?

This is a certified HONEY HOLE

that spot is can be really hot....
it is alot of fun to fish....
also the big rock in the bay there, on low tide
there is HUGE mussels on the rocks there...
I boil them up and put them in spagehtti, mmmmmm good *;D
    white or red sauce.

all fish thats the beach..... ;D
you park on that road and walk the boat to the
left side and launch there....theres a slight surge
    wear shorts and its easy......

    fisherdude4eva
porta boat is not recomended....sorry :-/
a 12' alu can do the trick... ;)
I've seen the porta boat its kinda scetchy....
or you could get a kayak and do it..
that would be great up there...
I might have to try that one, just got a 13'
used kayak for the kids at the lakes and that just
might be a alot of fun....
the cove at the lighthouse is the easiest to get in
    though the walk is longer...
that whole area is a hot bed for fish...
