    Re: Fishing is for everyone.

I told I girl in my office that I was going fishing after work...

Today, she asked "Did you catch anything? Or do you have an unspoken rule with your wife, where if you don't bring any fish home, she isn't supposed to ask?"

I explained that I was carp fishing, etc, etc, and that I CPR= catch photograph release.

She laughed and was completely suprised by the practice of "catch and release".

Long story short, I've had numerous people ask me how my fishing trips have gone and if I caught any "bass".... only because that is the only fish they can think of that people fish for.

I think what sparks these heated debates on this forum is a mutual and strong passion for the sport AND how us as individual fisherman WANT to be PERCEIVED as "fisherman" by the non-fishing public.

While I personally have a opinion on some of these matters I guess it's just a shame we spend so much time attacking each other instead of defending our sport/hobby/pastime.

Not to be overly dramatic but I think we can all see the restrictions hitting the firearm and hunting circles will continue to creep onto our door step. Soon enough we will be lead free, single pole, barbless single hook, artificial only, no motorized trolling, catch and release only, no stocking exc... I guess we will all be "real" fisherman then.

Your fellow outdoorsman is not the enemy it's the person that wants to eliminate your right to enjoy the outdoors you should be fighting.

Ok off my soap box. Time to put the kids to bed.
I guess it comes down to the definatiin of outdoorsmen. To me a snagger, a poacher, or a lawbreaker is not a sportsman and they should be called out. Some are ignorant, some do it intentionally. The ignorant can be enlightened, the intentional need to go to jail.

    Fishing is for everyone.

Maybe someone can explain how the carp takes the arrow point in the side intentionally. We can use that to fight off the anti-snaggers.

Oh, just wait. Until you've seen a "flossing" thread blow up on here, you havent seen anything.

Discussion is good to understand each other. Nothing wrong with that at all, Porem.

That's our point as mods. Post like Wings discourage people from posting on forums. We're all here because we enjoy fishing not to pounce on every post we don't agree with.

    Fishing is for everyone.

I know the thread was closed but it seems like quite a few "real" fishing threads popping up. If someone is following the letter of the law they should not be beaten out of town. If you have a issue with a certain method or type of fishing take it up with the DFG/DFW and petition to have a regulation changed. As outdoorsman we should try out best to be an inclusive group that encourages participation in the activities we enjoy as many folks would prefer we never have a chance to drop a hook in the water ever again.
