Re: What is your Favorite Aspect in fishing with a Flyrod?

I know Orvis offers free basic fly casting lessons. I have been tempted to take them up on that but have yet to make my way out there. Plus every fish I catch on the fly gives me a false sense of security that my casting is fine! haha I should make sure.

    Yeah that's a sad story.

I need to hit up some lessons. I'm gonna try on my own first and see what happens.

While much can be learned on your own - instruction really made the difference for me.

I had the great privilege to be trained by Bill Lowe, God rest his soul.

I got a Spey rod few months ago. Haven't even casted it yet.

Casting... a couple of years ago I bought a spey rod and Skagit setup...

now most of my casts aren't pretty but every once and a while it is smooth as silk and I feel right in a zone. those moments are perfect highs

having to go up to the clearest creeks imaginable to catch trout on dry flies. I love it!

I like the idea of being one with nature. A good flyfisher knows the insects in the river and does all they can to mimic it. You typically find them in cleaner, nicer, more remote areas and there seems to be a peace to it

I'd have to say the location it's taken me over the years. I don't think I would have ever gotten in the seat of the cesna if it hadn't been for fly fishing, that's how I got the invite. All I can say is the breakfast at Big Creek up in Idaho is awesome after a morning of catching native cutthroat..

    Casting.
Even when I'm not catching anything I enjoy every minute because I'm improving my casts.
