Poached. 100% not legal. It was not even correctly measured. They had no intention of releasing it The guy filming should have requested to see the measurement or else report it immediately. The guy filming failed at being a sports fisherman and just played along.

FYI, anytime you have a video of someone in question
send it into DFG and I can assure you they will pursue it.
I was told by email they take all matters seriously when
people are posting it to the internet and bragging about it.

this was from another video in high sierras for trout
they claimed they caught 30 trout in just one hour on a stringer.

    Hello Steve,
I just wanted to thank you for bringing the over-limit video to our attention. I was able to locate the subject from the video and issue him a citation.

    Thank you,
    Warden Jason Tessler

Three of us here say it looks to be at least 65. What do you all think?

    Poachers! Definitely not sport fishermen.

While I agree that both videos look a little "fishy", I would also say that neither is definitive. Don't know why DFW would pay either of these folks a visit. If you can;t prove it what's the point. Gotta catch them in the act. Those fish are both cleaned and length is unidentifiable once they are home.
A veteran - Whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to the "United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is an Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

You can see the bait in the fishes mouth while its in the net right before they bring it on board. There are no jump cuts from when the fish surfaces till its in the boat..

    Re: Legal or Not?

No intent to release from the get-go....... otherwise, why haul the fish up the levee.....belly hooked and all.

59" Sturgeon weighs approximately 60# depending on abundance of food, i.g., Herring Spawn, etc. Not a Sturgeon fisherman so I am not familiar the nuances of handling a 5' long fish at 60#. Difficult? Doable? I've seen keeper size Sturgeon at the ramps I frequent and folks don't seem to have trouble handling them, etc.

As an aside, I'm not sure sport fishing or fishing in general was ever considered dignified or glamorous in the State of CA to where onlookers are aware that the State's priority is to protect one of its natural resources (renewable)......... Honestly, what those two did is basically what most non-fishing onlookers expect them to do........ catch a fish and take it home to eat!

Fish was snagged in the stomach (it was even said on the video) and not measured properly. Those guys are poachers. Listen to the guy said "let's tag it and get out of here."
