Popsicles and skipping 1lb balls. I have used live bait also, in fact my wife Lisa won a Club Halibut Derby on a live bait day, but we always seem to do just as good on frozen,,,gregg

Thanks, I'm going to give it a try when the water clears up. Does san Francisco have live bait year round? Or just use frozen

Yea, its a little early but it can happen. Last year I went Feb 16th and caught two, a barley short and a small legal. The biggest factor this year is going to be when will the bay clear up from all the rain. Last year there wasn't the storms like this year and I was able to find clean water. I've been wondering how dirty the bay is right not, I may go in a couple weeks to check on if any fish have moved in. Guess I didn't post the trip here?? but here's my post ( copy ) off Finaddits on Feb 16,,,Gregg

" Broke the ice yesterday with the first trip. Had my brother in law visiting from northern Minn. and another buddy on board. We had low expectations, but figured we go anyways since the lack of rain has the bay fairly clean. Very little bait marked around Richmond and Berkley, but when I did find some, I worked a grid and picked a fish. Just a short and this legal for our efforts, but it's mid February. First time for my Brother in Law on/fishing the bay, seeing and catching a Halibut. Plus it was on the Valhalla, which he watched me build on social media, that had him stoked even if it was a just a boat ride. He and my sister loved it, he called it Walleye of the west, haha, if you ever have ate Walleye, you would know that's a big endorsement,,,Gregg "

Yes still too early for halibut this time a year. But the sturgeon bite is on if your looking for a bottom fish.

The stripers seem to be plentiful in san pablo bay. All the herring have been doing what they do this time of year. U might find a flatty out there somewhere

Never too early to try, but usually the halibut bite turns on in the south bay during March/April. Post something if u try. I havnt been on the water in forever lol
