Re: Who's been saltwater fly fishing? The Tropics

The tropics seem like a really cool place to go in order to enjoy fly fishing. I never thought about doing it in the ocean before. Is the experience a lot different? Is there anything that you need to know before trying it, or do you need to get special gear to make it happen? Would love to hear more about your experiences.

I spent a lot of time in Key West working with the US Navy over the past several years and I ALWAYS bring a couple of my fly rods and it's a blast! I've fished Bahia Honda as well as all over Stock Island and Key West. Caught many species from shore and kayaks. Also visited BPS at Islamorada.

    Hey Bill,

Tell the folks about fishing in Loreto, Mexico. We go on Fly fishing trips in Mexico for less then $250 per day, we eat like kings-live in a great place, have a panga-guide and catch Dorado-Sailfish-Marlin and Rooster's till our arms fall off...check with Bill he has all the details..Great guy to deal with

Re: Who's been saltwater fly fishing? The Tropics

I have been taking groups to the tropical salt water for over 30 years.

Mostly fly fishing in shallow flats and inshore waters.

Christmas Island, Belize, Mexican Yucatan, Baja, Cuba, Venezuela.....

Let me know if you have any questions about timing, locations, species, tackle....

Who's been saltwater fly fishing? The Tropics

52 hours fishing in the last 6 days and 2 bones on the bedpost. Other species aswell but nothing like a sightfished bone smashing the fly. The monsters still allure me. I Will Be back.
