    Re: Stampede kids weekend

Two other places for a tent or camp area are...........
Frenchman or Davis lake. if you like trout fishing.

Don't ne surprised if deer walk through your camp.................

    Stampede kids weekend

Took the kids camping at Stampede this weekend. Had a great time. Got in a couple hours of fishing Saturday evening and this morning. Ended up with 11 Kokanee, 2 Cutthroat, 2 Rainbows and a Tui Chub for our efforts. Lost probably half that many.

Fished up the Truckee arm in the evening thinking wed get into some easy trout and found Kokanee in 20. Worked our way down towards the main lake and had a hit or fish every 10-15 minutes. Good action for kids. Lots of dink Kokanee (10-12) but kids didnt care.

Fished ramp to islands to dam area this morning. Similar results. Had to take 2-3 dinks for every 14- 15 Kokanee, but the bigger fish are around. Mostly spinners, but a few hoochie fish. Night crawler pieces meant for trout picked up Kokanee just as well as corn. Caught fish 20-55 feet.

We kept the little Kokanee we caught. Kind of an ethics lesson for the kids. Most fish either got a hook to an eye or were bleeding when they hit the net, so release was not an option, but Ive found the little buggers are pretty good smoked whole.

Also saw an Osprey catch a fish only to get chased by a Bald Eagle and lose it in the air. Kids thought it was ok, Dad thought it was National Geographic worthy.

Mixed in lots of water sports. Stampede is perfect for an outdoor family who likes variety. Big thanks to others on this board who posted reports and offered help as well. Much appreciated.
